Formia (3 min by car) is a city in the province of Latina, on the Mediterranean coast of Lazio (Italy). It is located halfway between Rome and Naples, and lies on the Roman-era Appian Way. Formia was founded by ancient Romans, the name deriving from the Greek hormiai, meaning 'landing place'. It was a renowned resort during the imperial era.
Gaeta (5 min by car) lies in the middle of 'Riviera di Ulisse'. It is a splendid seaside town of naturalistic and landscape beauties with many historical, religious and monumental testimonies.
Sperlonga (15 min by car) is a beautiful seaside town to the south of Rome, accessible by public transport. Whitewashed houses are clustered together on a steep headland, the streets warren-like stairways that bring you to unexpected terraces above the sea. The old town is compact and charming, and a pleasure to explore.
Ponza (1 hour by ferry) is the largest of the Italian Pontine Islands archipelago.
