Dating from the early 1800s, this large house is situated in the centre of the historic village of St Privat des Pres. It was the original post relay station house and stables for the village and has been beautifully restored. It provides secure off-street parking for 3 cars within the gated courtyard. The house is essentially on three levels and has everything you may need for your stay. In typical French style the house fronts directly onto the street although we usually use the side entrance through the double gates and the courtyard. The house sleeps up to 8 persons in 4 of the bedrooms, 2 doubles each with ensuite bathrooms and two twins with shared facilities. It has a large modern swimming pool, pool house, covered barbecue and terrace all within an enclosed private garden. Large lounge, and family room, French and UK TV, library, dining room, eat-in kitchen. The village has a shop and bar and it is only 12km from the market town of Riberac which has everything you will need.

Set in the beautiful Perigord Vert, St Privat des Pres dates from the middle ages with plenty of history including a priory where the Pope once stayed and great example of the area's Romanesque churches. The village is surrounded by fields and forest and within an hour's drive there are many fine examples of chateaux of the region. The area is famous for its foie gras, cheese and walnuts and is only a short drive from the wineries of Bergerac and Bordeaux. St Privat is also very close to the Charente and the town of Cognac is approximately one hours drive to the north. Close by, the village of Aubeterre on the banks of the Dronne river has been named the most beautiful village in France. The Perigord region is famous for is food and cuisine and a visit to the auberges and restaurants of the region is one of the highlights of a holiday in the area. The market town of Riberac some 12km from the house is famous for its Friday market and well serviced with supermarkets and shops.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Our rental weeks are from Saturday 4pm to Saturday 10am.

    Arrival outside of normal hours can be arranged but may incur a small fee if our manager has to attend (usually not the case).

    We ask that upon departure the house be left in 'ready to rent' state. i.e. cleaned with washing up done, beds stripped and linen left in the kitchen and all rubbish taken to the Village garbage point closeby.
  • We require a 10% deposit to lock in the booking with the balance paid at least 4 weeks before the start of the rental.
    We offer a 10% discount on the rental cost if everything is paid at the time of booking.
    We also request a GBP200 (or equivalent) security deposit to be paid with final rental payment. This will be refunded following your departure upon confirmation that all is in order.
    Cancellation 3 months or more before rental and we will refund 100% of the deposit paid. Up to 6 weeks before the rental we will refund 50% of the deposit paid.
    Rental payments are best made by direct transfer to Barclays Bank in Jersey. Regrettably we cannot accept debit or credit cards.

Notes: Children are welcome at our house but because the bedrooms are all on the upper floors and the stairs in this historic house are quite steep we do not recommend it for children under 3. Similarly unfortunately we do not believe our property will suit infirm people with restricted mobility. Mobile telephone reception in the house is sometimes poor but it is fine in the garden.. Our house telephone can receive all calls (tel number is +33 553 90 56 92) but only can be used for toll free or local calls. We have English and French TV in different lounge rooms. English tV is satellite with free to air channels only. If you have a Sky card you can bring it and use it in the receiver. All linen and towels are provided and changed weekly for those renting for 2 weeks or more. The house is strictly non smoking inside and please do not allow local pets (cats) into the house as friendly as they may seem.
