Cabanas is a former fishing village, about 7Km from the city of Tavira to the East side. It holds a little more than 1000 permanent residents, and its beautiful and clean beaches turn it into a popular tourist destination in the summer. This area was established as such in 1997.
The village structure is composed by a long line of low-rise houses, shops, bars and restaurants facing the Ria Formosa Nature Park.
Tavira coastline is calm and peaceful, with extremely inviting eleven kilometres of fine white sandy beaches and very warm water. The braches are crossed by Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, offering pleasant boat trips and the chance to observe the typical wetland flora and fauna, most particularly the water birds.
Tavira Island along with Praia do Barril, are the 2 most popular beaches in Tavira. But you might be interested in exploring the many but less populated beaches which are preferred by the local community.
Almost all the Algarve Golf Courses are within an hour of Tavira
