Killahara Castle, set among the hills of Tipperary, is a recently restored tower house, offering comfort and tranquility within its ancient walls. It has a large fully equipped kitchen, a lounge with a huge fireplace and seven bedrooms (five double and two single) plus two additional camp beds for overflow. The three bathrooms, tucked away within the old garderobes, provide showers in a unique setting. In addition, the penthouse suite with views across all of Tipperary through its glass end gables, contains a claw footed bath. The ancient spiral stairs, unchanged for hundreds of years, and trodden by the likes of Black Jack Fogarty, take you up through the five floors of the castle. Killahara Castle, a place of legend and beauty, provides an ideal getaway for family reunions, birthday celebrations with a difference,weekend retreats, hill walkers or honeymooners who want to shut the world out for a few days. Killahara Castle is situated in Dovea Village, three miles from Thurles. Thurles, (from Dúrlas Éile (UÍ Fhogartaigh), the strong fort of the O'Fogarty's) is surrounded by the Silvermine mountains to the north-west and the Slieveardagh Hills to the south-east. The town itself nestles in the heart of the beautiful Suir Valley. It is a an old market town steeped in the history of Ireland and it was here that the GAA was founded in 1884. There are many places of interest to visit in and around Thurles, including the Famine Museum, the Romanesque Cathedral of the Assumption, the Lár na Páirce - The Story of Gaelic Games, a Genealogical Centre and St Mary's Famine Church. Thurles today is a thriving modern town and you can take your pick of restaurants and traditional pubs in he town itself and on the outskirts near the castle. In addition, Killahara provides an ideal base for those interested in fishing, horse riding, golf, cycling and hill walking.

Notes: The spiral stairs in Killahara is in its original form and in excellent condition. Unusually, it has hand rail. Movement between levels is therefore relatively easy. Nevertheless it is an ancient stone structure spanning 5 levels and there are various common-sense safety precautions that we ask all guests to observe in relation to the stairs as well as doorways and passage ways.
