Sports facilities in and around Edinburgh:
For golf enthusiasts you will find Edinburgh and its environs a perfect base for playing the game, whether you are a beginner or prefer a more challenging course. As well as a good choice of municipal courses in Edinburgh there are many famous courses in easy reach such as Musselburgh Links, Gullane and North Berwick (in East Lothian) and Gleneagles within an hour's drive. For those who prefer to watch sport, Murrayfield Stadium hosts many rugby internationals, 6 nations rugby tournament, american football, premier club rugby and music concerts. For football fans, Hibernian & Tynecastle stadiums are nearby and Hampden Park, Ibrox and Celtic Park in Glasgow are under an hour away. There is a public swimming pool with 5 minutes walk which has great family facilities including flumes. The beaches at Portobello offer a good chance to engage in watersports or rollerblading. For younger children there is an indoor softplay 5 minutes walk away and there is a cutting edge Virgin Active gym.

The vibrant, historic city of Edinburgh is a wonderful place to be during Festival season. Here is a taste of what is available. Fringe 2009 runs from 7-31 August. It's the biggest arts festival in the world, with something for everyone: theatre, comedy, music, dance, exhibitions and much, much more. In fact, it's the number-one tourist attraction in the whole of Britain. Venues such as The Stand Comedy Club are close to the apartment. www.edfringe.com. Edinburgh International Jazz and Blues Festival. 31 July – 9 August. Various venues including some around Leith Shore. Edinburgh International Book Festival. 15-31 August. Charlotte Square Gardens are a 10 minute bus ride away. www.edbookfest.co.uk.
