Soller area holiday house: Soller

This is a peaceful, charming property in a beautiful location tucked away in the hills between Soller and Fornalutx with beautiful views.

The location is excellent. As per the description, you can walk to Soller in 15-20 minutes; Fornalutx in around 30 minutes; get the train to Port Soller or Palma; reasonable drive to Deia, Valldemossa etc.

There are plenty of restaurants in Soller etc., but you need to do a bit a research as some of them are not very good at all. Ones that we particularly enjoyed were Luna 36 (Soller); Esplendido bistro (Port Soller); and Rock City (Palma).

The layout and facilities are as described/photographed. There is a really big outdoor seating/sunbathing/eating area which is where we spent most of our time. It's peaceful during the day, but the evenings are quite magical - when the heat dies down, the air is full of the scent of flowers, trees, shrubs etc.

The roads out of Soller to Can Bac are quite rough in parts and some are single track. The driveway up to the villa is very, very steep with tight bends so if you hire a car, you need a small one with a good size engine!

The idea of the reservoir is charming, but it was a bit murky during our stay so we didn't use it in case we picked up an ear infection or similar.

We were there during the heatwave in June 2009 and would have welcomed air con in the bedroom. Also, screens on the windows would have been nice so that we could have them open in the evening/night without getting bitten.

One niggle that is more aimed at the local council rather than the owner is that walkers sometimes mistook the path to the house for the path to Fornalutx as the signage isn't very good. Perhaps the owner could put up their own sign until the council get round to sorting it out.

We would go go back to Can Bac and would recommend it to our friends. It's a great location and would appeal to those who are looking for a bit of acitivity such as walkers as well as those looking for a relaxing holiday.
