Set in one of the most dramatically beautiful parts of the Lake District, this newly available ‘get away from it all’ cottage offers superb comfort and style, total peace and quiet, fantastic walking AND plenty to see and do nearby. Full of pictures, games and books, with a big farmhouse kitchen at its heart, the views from every window will take your breath away. The cottage looks out on Scafell, England’s highest mountain, and you can walk from the cottage to Devoke Water, a mysterious mountain lake. Relax by a roaring log fire with a good book or Sky TV, or sit on the patio and drink in the stunning mountain view, where all you can hear are skylarks and lambs. You’ll feel a world away from tourists and crowds, yet the Lake District’s favourite destinations, from Beatrix Potter’s Hilltop Farm to boat trips on Coniston, and Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage, are all within easy reach.

High Ground Cottage is a five minute drive from Ulpha Post Office and Stores. Eskdale Post Office/Stores and George IV pub are 10 minutes drive. Broughton-in-Furness is a lovely little market town just 15 minutes drive away which has terrific food shops selling local produce as well as good food pubs and cafes. St Bees vast sandy beach and beach café and Silecroft beach are both within easy reach. Muncaster Castle with its Owl Sanctuary and Gardens are nearby as is the L’il Ratty single gauge steam railway from Eskdale to Ravenglass on the coast. The magnificent Hard Knott Pass with its Roman Fort is an easy drive. Ambleside, Coniston, Grasmere, Windermere from 40- 45 mins drive.

Notes: There is a large farmhouse kitchen with log-burning stove and double glass doors onto the patio, plus a laundry room. In addition there are TWO sitting rooms - a cosy double aspect sitting room (sits 10 at a pinch!) with open log fire, and a second, double aspect sitting room with big glass doors onto the patio and a sofa bed. There is a downstairs shower/toilet and two bathrooms upstairs.

Fantastic location, beautiful views, superbly presented, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, comfortably fitted us all in, 6 adults 4 children and 2 dogs. The drive to the cottage a little precarious with some wobbly tummies but well worth it. Would love to stay again and will definately be recommending the cottage.
