The owners of this delightful country house, a musician and an artist, have created an idyllic getaway for families in the heart of the French countryside yet only minutes from Mareuil with its shops, bank and restaurants. There are 4 double bedrooms, three double beds and four single. Two shower rooms, one ensuite, one bathroom and three toilets. A lovely lounge with stone fireplace and comfy seats for up to 10 people off which is a music room with piano and hi-fi. The house also has a separate dining room adjoining the kitchen. This is fully equipped with dishwasher, microwave, electric oven and gas hob, washing machine. Outside, the outdoor dining furniture and a BBQ are perfect for al fresco dining on balmy evenings! The large garden, over an acre, features a private pool, which is securely fenced to meet safety regulations, is secluded and a wonderful play area for the youngsters including swings and a slide.

Villard is a small hamlet a few minutes from the town of Mareuil which has all amenities. A small supermarket, bank, post office, butchers and bakers, and a market on Tuesday. Further afield there is Brantome (15kms) a beautiful historic town with the river Dronne running around it and overlooked by the abbey set into the hillside. On a Friday there is a large bustling market with stalls set alongside the river. Perigueux is about 45 kms away, the Prefecture of the Dordogne and with its medieaval centre and wonderful cathedral, well worth a visit. The wine growing areas of Bergerac, Bordeaux and Cognac are within easy reach. Angouleme, the Prefecture for the Charente with its ramparts and famous Classic Car Rally in September is another good day out. Close to home La Jemaye (30kms) offers sandy beaches, canoeing and swimming. There are châteaux to visit, beautiful well marked paths for walking, quiet lanes for cycling and many bar/ restaurants for lunch. Rural France at its best
