Situated in St Benoist-sur-Mer on the edge of the Marais Poitevin, La Fermette sleeps up to 6 people in two spacious bedrooms, 1 double and 1 quad. The living room has a traditional fireplace with modern furnishings and UK TV channels. The large open plan dining room and kitchen is fully-equipped with a large fridge-freezer and cooker. There is also a full-size dishwasher so that you're not wasting your precious holiday-time on the mundane task of washing-up! St Benoist-sur-Mer has a friendly bar/restaurant and local shop called 'Le Lapin Qui Fume'.It is just a short stroll from La Fermette. The beautiful beaches of La Tranche-sur-Mer and Les Conches are 12km away, a short car journey or pleasant cycle ride.

St Benoist-sur-Mer is on the edge of the Marais Poitevin nature reserve. Within walking distance of La Fermette is a viewing area for the marshes and a canoe rental centre. The 11th century church with the famous smoking rabbit on the top is visible from La Fermette. In the village is a bar/restaurant/local shop called Le Lapin Qui Fume. Well-placed for the beaches at both La Tranche-sur-Mer and Les Conches (both under 15 minutes by car), La Fermette really does offer the perfect blend of coast and countryside.

The area: The Vendée has a microclimate which means that the area enjoys up to 2600 hours of sunshine a year. This is almost as many as the south of France and almost twice as many as London! Well-established as a tourist area you will find activities to suit all of the family. From a castle in Talmont-St-Hilaire and a tower in Moricq to a zoo in Les Sables d'Olonne there really is something for everyone. All towns have local produce markets, wonderful opportunities to try local specialities and soak up some of the friendly Vendéen atmosphere. The summer also sees the area hosting many music festivals and watersport competitions. Every four years the world famous Vendée globe race sets off from Les Sables d'Olonne and the Vendée is regularly featured in the itinerary for the Tour de France cycle race.

Situated in the southern reaches of the Loire valley, the Vendée has four main wine-producing areas : Brem-sur-Mer, Vix, Pissotte and Mareuil-sur-Lay. Visits and tastings can be arranged and most restaurants stock local wines for you to enjoy. For history buffs l'Historial de la Vendée is the place to visit. Telling the long history of the area from pre-historic times to the present day there is also a simulated helicopter ride over the Vendée, exciting for visitors of all ages. Slightly further afield are the leisure parks of Futuroscope and Puy de Fou both 'must-sees' for the family. For bargain-hunters, Cholet has a designer outlet - Marques Avenue with many popular labels at reduced prices.

NICE HOUSE IN A GREAT LOCATION

La Fermette is a really nice house in a quiet village and is in a great location for the coast, e.g. La Tranche, with Les Sables d'Olonne or La Rochelle only a short drive away.
It is in an excellent position for people who like to cycle, as there are many marked cycle routes close by (one goes right by the house). There is also a nature reserve a short walk from the house, where you can see beavers and coypu swimming, as well as many types of birds including Heron & Cygnone Blanc.
Inside the house had a great kitchen, nice bedrooms and a comfortable lounge.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children

AN EXCELLENT HOLIDAY ACCOMMODATION

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at La Fermette. The description of the gite was spot on. It was tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. The location is very peaceful . We all enjoyed the large garden including our dog Max, and it was safe and secure - suitable for dogs and young children alike.

The beaches close by are beautiful and many, including Les Conches, allow dogs on them. The information regarding dogs on beaches is quite contradictory but basically they are allowed on the beaches in areas outside of the lifeguard patrolled areas.

Lots of attractions within easy reach of the property to suit all age groups. La Rochelle is about an hours drive away and a drive around the vineyards nearby was interesting. The nature reserve is well worth a visit and we were able to watch the beavers swimming!

The owners were very approachable and helpful and came to change the bedding and towels on the middle weekend of our two week stay.

We thouroughly recommend the property and certainly plan to come back!

Wonderful little house

We would definitely recommend this house - it is very modern, well equiped and maintained. It is situated in a lovely village with a very nice restaurant with friendly staff and great food.
Cheryl was very helpful both before we arrived and while we were there.
A very nice holiday indeed!

Thank you very much - we have had a wonderful holiday. The house is perfect, really nicely done inside. You have been really friendly and helpful. We have done some gorgeous walks from the house and also had a brilliant day in Maillezais. The restaurant in the village does amazing food and is also friendly. All in all an excellent holiday - thank you.

Our Short Motorbike Trip

Thank you for the superb Farm House we stayed in, there was four of us old bikers, this Farn House had plenty of room for us, our gear and a great barn for our pride and joy bikes.
The Farm House was immaculate, with all new appliances ( not that we done any cooking as we spent most of our time down the Smoking Rabbit)
The suroundings are huge, would make a fantastic family holiday.
I intend to bring my family to the Farm House
