Photos and Description of this Chateau d'Oex holiday chalet 4 Bedroom chalet with spectacular views. Sleeps 8 + baby.

Our chalet, a comfortable, well equipped, 'home from home' is situated in a quiet, elevated position on the south facing side of the valley. Built almost entirely of wood in the traditional chalet style, its unique, elevated position overlooking the village, means that the views from the balconies are uninterrupted and sunny. Behind is grazing for cattle - the only properties higher than ours are farms! Perfect for bird watching. On the ground floor is the 'den' with table tennis, DVD player, sofa and space to chill out away from the main house. A short external flight of stairs leads to the living accommodation: 1st floor a large living / dining room gives access to lower balcony, kitchen, small utility area and bathroom, with porch and entrance hall. Upstairs are 4 bedrooms. We like guests of all ages to feel at home, and provide a selection of books, games and videos. The kitchen is compact and well equipped. The chalet is accessed via a steep flight of external step.

Chateau d'Oex is a traditional picturesque Alpine village, internationally famous for hot air ballooning. An outdoor swimming pool, ten pin bowling and adventure playground, a selection of restaurants, delicatessens and a good sized supermarket. Summer tennis courts, winter ice rink. Friendly local people in shops and bars, summer walks and mountain bike trails are well marked, and a helpful tourist information. A wealth of outdoor activities available. Chateau d'Oex ski region, 'La Braye', has seven lifts and 40 km of pistes. It forms part of the Gstaad Super Ski Region with over 250km of pistes available on one ski pass which includes use of the bus and train. The Videmanette cablecar at Rougemont connects with the ski area of Gstaad, while the resorts of Leysin/Les Mosses and the glacier at Les Diablerets can be accessed by the efficient bus or train service. Excellent skis available to hire in the village. Pistes in the valley are like no other - quiet, beautiful and varied.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Prices shown are based on 2 adults sharing the chalet. Additional guests are at a cost of £25 per stay.
    Included in the price is fuel, bed linen, kitchen linen, final cleaning and heating. The only extras are if you would like to hire personal bathroom towels, for which we make a small charge of £5 per person, or if you would like us to arrange mid stay cleaning or bed linen change.

    Booking terms are:
    We aim to answer enquiry emails within 24 hours, and we will hold a provisional booking for 48 hrs. Should you wish to reserve the chalet formally, we will reserve it for 1 week awaiting a deposit of 25% The balance becomes due 2 calendar months before you arrive, and we send a reminder by email. A security deposit of £100 will be requested when you pay the balance, which will be refunded after checking out.
    A warm welcome awaits you from Maya, our key holder, who can help you if you need it during your stay.
  • We undertake to be completely honest and transparent with you through all your dealings with us. You can expect and will always receive friendly help and advice in planning your holiday, and if you have any special requirements we will do our best to accommodate you (eg flowers and champagne for a special occasion.)

Notes: The property is entered through the porch with large cupboards for shoes and coats, and more storage for bags and coats is in the inner hall. There are 2 large balconies (10x2m), the lower accessed from the living room contains a large table and benches, chairs with cushions, and drop leaf tables. The upper seats and table. The terrace area at basement level has a wooden table and bench. Extra fridge and freezer space in utility area under the stairs. The chalet is situated on a private road, in an exceptionally elevated and quiet position. It is accessed via a steep external flight of stairs, and is therefore unsuitable for disabled guests. 3 parking spots: in garage, in front of garage and on edge of road (this may not be usable in severe weather). It may sometimes be necessary to leave vehicles on lower road. Telephone incoming calls only. Kitchen and bed linen, fuel and final cleaning included in the price. Bathroom towels available for a small charge.

Hot Air Ballooning: Chateau d'Oex is most famous for its annual International Hot Air Ballooning Festival every January. Hundreds of balloonist from across the world gather for a week, and a holiday at this time of year in the village is an absolute treat. Balloon rides, balloons in the shape of birthday cakes or Guinness bottles will be found, and the atmosphere is electric! The famous Breitling Orbiter balloons (both the failed and the successful round the world attempts) took off from the village, and the balloon museum is worth a visit. You will find the original capsule on display by the village square.

White Water Rafting / Golf : RAFTING: On the Sarine, which runs through Chateau d'Oex. A local company. GOLF: 20 minutes away at Saanenmoeser you will find the beautiful Gstaad golf course (including driving range). Within 45 minutes there are golf courses at La Gruyere, Villars and Aigle.

Skiing : The wonderful Gstaad valley is home not only to movie stars, but also to some of the best and most varied skiing in the Alps. The ski region of Chateau d’Oex, known as La Braye has seven ski lifts and 40 km of pistes. It forms part of the Gstaad Super Ski Region with over 250km of pistes available on one ski pass which includes use of the bus and train. The Videmanette cablecar at Rougemont connects with the ski area of Gstaad, while the resorts of Leysin/Les Mosses and the glacier at Les Diablerets can be accessed by the efficient bus or train service. The stunningly beautiful Gstaad valley is quiet and unspoiled. None of the villages are huge 'resorts', so retain their individual characters. Most villages have lovely 'ski gardens' for children to learn in. Wonderful for skiers who get bored easily - a new place to be discovered every day! A long 'luge' (sledge run) goes from the top of the mountain in Chateau d'Oex; sledges provided. Excellent skis for hire in the village.
