Fiumefreddo di Sicilia is a ancient sea-town, born on the Ionic Riviera in the XVIII century & today provided of all commercial services.
The name 'Fiumefreddo' means 'cold-river', due to the little river nearby the city, surrounded from a WWF natural reserve, with typical plantation of papyrus.
Grown with a rural economy, the town is located in a strategic point between Catania and Taormina.
It's at few minutes from the sea (awarded with the international 'Blue Flag' for the clean water), on the 'Ionic Riviera', the East coast of Sicily.
It's also located at just 6 km from the 'Porto dell'Etna', the new ferry port of Riposto.
About 7 km going to North you find Taormina, where you can visit its ancient Greek-roman theater or appreciate the fantastic panoramic terrace called 'Belvedere'.
Or you can go to Acireale, a little city at 15 km South, plenty of XVII cent. churches and so called 'Valle del Barocco'.
In half an hour by highway you can move to Catania the nearest big city.
