The historic village of Peniscola, made famous by the film El Cid is still a working fishing port with boats landing fish for auction on weekdays. Situated north of the Sierra de Irta national park which is one of the most sparsely populated coastlines in Spain. Within day trip distance to Valencia and Barcelona the village has a 10 km sandy beach and crystal blue sea. There is a competition golf course 35 minutes drive. The Delta del Ebre is a 40 minute drive and a favourite with bird watchers, rare waders including flamingos can be spotted in the paddy fields. The town of Morella in the mountains is another favourite day trip. Many sea food restaurants can be reached up and down the coastline.
