At the end of a quiet lane serving a hill-top hamlet, Teyssières has a lovely, peaceful atmosphere. Completely renovated and modernized to a very high standard, the farmhouse retains its traditional style with exposed beams, an open fireplace and a pigeonnier. At the back of the house there is a spacious, secluded and partially covered terrace which overlooks pretty countryside. It leads to the private salt water pool (which is 12m x 6m with roman steps and a security fence) and is equipped with a dining table which seats 12, a barbecue, loungers, a drinks fridge and table tennis table. The large sitting room has a traditional open fireplace with wood-burning stove, a dining table which seats 12, a stereo system, snooker table and doors to the garden. The kitchen is very well equipped and there are books and board and card games. Much of the furniture is in the traditional French style, with antique wardrobes and some wide single antique beds.

The region offers a delightful combination of magnificent rivers, rolling hills, sunflowers, orchards, vineyards and forest. Moissac in the Tarn-et-Garonne is famous for its Romanesque abbey and cloister. Close by are the rosy pink cities of Toulouse, Montauban and Albi (birth place of Toulouse Lautrec). This is the 'land of the bastides' - the medieval villages which are an outstanding feature of south-west France. Lauzerte, Auvillar, Beaumont-de-Lomagne, Cordes, Bruniquel and St. Antonin-Noble-Val are all within easy reach. To the west are Bordeaux and its famous vineyards and to the east the vineyards of Gaillac. To the south lie Gascony and, beyond, the mountains of the Pyrénées. This is one of the sunniest area of France. In July and August temperatures average 27°C.

Activities in the area: On the route to St Jacques de Compostelle, Moissac is a charming market town with some good food shops, restaurants and cafes (and not many tourists). Market days are Saturday and Sunday. It also has a good selection of boulangeries, supermarkets and banks. Through Moissac flow both the river Tarn and the Canal du Midi. In the summer, there is water skiing on the river and boats and bikes can be hired for trips along the Canal. Close by is the lake at St Nicolas-de-la-Grave where there is canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and horse riding. There is also horse riding at the beautiful village of Lauzerte. For children there is a water park (Walibi) near Agen. There are two 9 hole golf courses nearby. One is at Roucous, near Castelnau-Montratier and the other at Espalais, near Auvillar. Both are about 30 minutes drive. The local village of Durfort Lacapelette (3km) has a boulangerie, a small supermarket and a tennis court.

A few more details: The study has a desk, phone and wireless broadband. The gardens and meadows are extensive and offer complete privacy. There is parking space for 8 cars in the circular drive at the front of the house.

Bedlinen and bath and hand towels are included in the rental and the farmhouse is cleaned between lettings. Please note that swimming towels are not provided. A welcome pack, breakfast, extra cleaning and central heating are all available on request.

We stayed for 14 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The photos do not do justice to the size of the pool - it's a fabulous size for a private villa - I've stayed in hotels with smaller pools!

Most of our time was spent around the pool area, where there is ample room for sunbeds and chairs - we regularly had 12 of us around, and never once felt like we were tripping over each other. The shaded/covered area between the house and the pool is the perfect accompaniment to the pool, as it allows shade when you want it, and gives the perfect place for meals. The fact that there are two lengthy tables outside allowed us to eat together, and then play/talk long into the evening.

Everything is on site - the BBQ was well used, as was the external beer/wine fridge, the table tennis table was great fun, and the music system gave the whole 2 weeks a soundtrack of our own choosing.

The house itself is ideal as it's big enough to give privacy when you want it. The upstairs is better for kids than adults, and the kitchen is comfortably big enough to prepare a good size meal for a dozen people.

Overall, we loved the villa, and have no qualms in recommending it to any other families who like being in a peaceful rural environment.

What a lovely spot – so peaceful and private and yet close to the beautiful town of Moissac. The house is brilliant, lots of space and nice bedrooms and the terrace and pool are fabulous. Very well equipped for large parties – you’ve thought of everything!

We enjoyed every minute. Beautiful scenery and views of the meadows and woodland. I immediately picked a spot where I could sit and watch the sun set and rise every morning. The pool set the house alight and we had fun playing table tennis and snooker. The house had lots of space - the upstairs rooms with their own full bathroom were great for the kids and downstairs the rooms were massive. On the day of our christening party, we had 30 people and the garden had enough space - our 4 cars easily fitted in the parking area at the front of the house. Thanks and see you again next year."
