Lovely cottage in the chestnut forest
Lovely, rustic cottage in a quiet forest location. Birdsong, boar, butterflies and fireflies were frequent features of our days and nights. If you want a place to chill, this is the one.

A TRULY GETAWAY PLACE!
We thoroughly loved staying here! A truly get away location. Quiet and relaxing! Any beeping of cars was more of a reassurance of warning other cars! One of the highlights was the gentle playing of a clarinet through the trees of the nearest neighbour! You really felt it was just yourselves amongst the trees. The area was lovely to discover, would like to come back!!

Lovely isolated house
lease don’t take this review as negative but as a constructive summary of what needs to be considered by guests. We really liked Casa Casciani and had a wonderful two week stay. We have visited many villas in Italy over the years. This is a place where you need to plan ahead. We just want to help others understand the property. The house itself is spacious, clean and comfortable and reasonably well equipped. What distinguishes Casa Casciani from other similar holiday houses, is its relative isolation. Although there is an excellent restaurant within a 10-15 minute walk down and up the hairpin road, there is also a supermarket less than 10 minutes drive away. There are neighbours close enough so that you can sometimes hear their conversations in the garden and drivers sound their horns regularly to warn other drivers on the hairpin bends. This is where there is a contradiction in terms - it’s remote and quiet but there are car horns, clock towers chiming out the time from 2 villages , gardeners trimming the road verges, gardeners doing each house’s garden nearby. The patio is south facing and when we were there (end of June to early July) was in direct sunshine for nine hours each day. The lovely city of Lucca is a twenty minute drive away, and Pisa is within easy reach. There are fine beaches around an hour’s drive away including the famous resort of Viareggio. There is an abundance of wildlife, and although we were disappointed not to see wild boar or deer, the bats at sunset gave us a daily display. The birdsong is absolutely stunning and seeing them up close is wonderful. The less welcome wildlife included various biting insects, unavoidable in Italy at this time. The house is on a hillside, almost surrounded by woodland with tall trees, and as such is completely private and not overlooked. The drive itself requires nerves of steel to negotiate from the road outside - on a blind bend- which needs a small car with good turning circles! The steep staircase from the car parking area to to the house is not easy to negotiate, especially with luggage and supermarket shopping bags. The house itself may not suitable for those with restricted mobility. Rooms are on separate levels with little steps up and down in to the bedrooms and the toilet. Therfe is no Wi-fi, and the cellular signal is weak and unpredictable. There is no tv signal - the set is not HD, and is used only as a monitor for the DVD player, which has an iPod dock as well.

Awesome holiday cottage in the Tuscan hills
The location is fabulous - high up on the hillside with great views over the valley and sunshine throughout the day. The house is great - we found it very comfortable, nicely furnished, a very comfortable king-size bed and a well-equipped kitchen. We used the bbq a couple of times and eating outside on the patio with a glass of local wine in the evening waiting for the fireflies to light up was great. We saw and heard deer in the forest too. Lucca is beautiful and only a short drive and it's possible to eat there in the evening and do the 15 min drive back no problem. You don't need to drive to Lucca though to eat in a great restaurant as the one at the bottom of the hill just 5 mins walk from the cottage is fabulous. We had a great time at Cassa Casciani and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and peaceful time in a stunning location.

Hi, I am Vala. I am a molecular biologist with and MBA degree. Other than that I am an olive farmer in the hills above Lucca and I love everything Italian although I am a thoroughbred Icelandic viking. Hope to see you in Italy!!

Why they chose this property

This cottage in Pescaglia valley was our reason to come to Italy in the first place. We bought it as our summerhouse in 2004 and renovated it ourselves with many trips back and forth from the land of ice and fire.

What makes this property unique

In our minds this is a perfect little spot to enjoy peace and quiet but still be able to visit all the great sites in the north of Tuscany, the most beautiful place of Tuscany in my opinion!! I love coming there to get free from social media and internet.
