Our stay at Romantic Cliff Garden
Review Submitted: August 21, 2009
Date of Stay: August 2009
I could at best describe our stay at this location as disappointing and at worst as a disaster. The welcome " basket of goodies" was sadly lacking in luster a bar of cheap chocolate some rather nasty peanuts , uht cream with some scones left by the previous occupants and a bottle of Bucks Fizz probably better suited to clearing the sink. A four poster bed with linen drapes but no bed sheet! No where to hang clothes , no chest of drawers . There was no TV reception and a very limited selection of DVD's. The so called garden was in fact a concrete yard overlooked by neighbours that got the sun for about a nanosecond around midday. The idea of relaxing in the hot tub was totally ludicrous the reek of rotting mattresses and vegetation made in impossible to open the back door let alone get out there. The seating in the kitchen was obviously some experimental form of torture device. I would like to congratulate the photographer for doing an amazing job for the web site. I was totally convinced with an emphasis on the con .
Owner's Response: The welcome pack found in the fridge for freshness was : fresh wrapped scones , double cream and strawberry jam, butter and ham, a loaf of bread for toast, a carton of ,ilk and a carton of orange, Bucks Fizz and crosissants. Left out with fresh flowers was a packet of peanuts/bar of plain chocolate and a crusty baguette. In the cuboards was coffee, tea, sugar, cereal, spices and oil. To hand was washing up liquid, cleaning products and soappowder for the washer/drier. Toilet paper, kitchen roll, more flowers in the bedroom, a bundle of towels and the bed made up with fresh linen, a new jaycloth, a scourer and a clean tea towel. it is intended as a welcome, to allow a few moments before unpacking and to say hello when I can't be there to greet. I had thought it generous, no offence intended.
The bedroom is a generousley proportioned Edwardian parlour, on either side of the large chimneybreast are recesses with shelving and louvre doors.
There is a flat screened TV with DVD's provided but no Sky. There is now about 30 DVD's of all genres.
The garden is as photographed, it is a pretty and quite large courtyard flanked by ivy covered cliffs. It gets the sun until the early afternoon. It has a deck with a hot tub, it has tubs and a hanging basket, and now a collection of large antique lobster pots and a fire cage with wood and firelighters provided, table and chairs.
It feels very private as the cliffs are soaring, and there are very high walls around the garden, perhaps 15' tall. A neighbour's balcony is at that height to the left of the property but for the UK it feels quite privalaged in not being a garden overlooked in every direction side and back.
In August I don't think there was any rotting vegetation. There is an outdoor storage cupboard with a door latched shut in which are stored some matresses on behalf of a disabled lady in the apartment above. They are quite dry, and the cuboard is clearly not there for the run of our guests.
The photos show the flat as it is, the breakfast bar stools are from IKEA and in the spirit of the modern kitchen apologies if they were uncomfortable.
