Mas Tolosan is a 17th century farmhouse that has been renovated in a modern style without loosing any of the original charm. The garden is fragrant and colourful, the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon cocktail. Our modern and comfortable apartment (gite) is in the rural village of Vauvert, between the cultural heart of Arles, the festive city of Names and 20km from the sea. The 96m2 apartment sleeps 4-6, it has 2 bedrooms with queen sized beds (160x200), a mezzanine perfect for the kids' play area plus a sofa bed in the living room. The bedrooms and mezzanine are air-conditioned. The gite has a fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker, dishwasher and washing machine. The living room has a TV and DVD player. The secured pool and garden is at your disposal, with wifi access. The owner lives on the property and is able to assist with anything you may need.

Discover the best kept secret in the South of France, between Arles and Nimes. In the heart of Petite Camargue, where white horses roam, black bulls charge and pink flamingoes flock, you will find the tranquil comfort of Mas Tolosan. Vauvert is on the pilgrimage road of St Jacques de Compostelle between Nimes and Arles. Arles is an old Roman town with a majestic arena in the centre still used for bullfights. Van Gogh and Gaugin made the town famous in recent times, spending many years painting the beautiful surrounding Les Alpilles and the colours of Provence. Nimes is another Roman town famous for it's festive feria with bullfights in the immense central arena. In Petite Camargue, the villages of Aigues Mortes, Le Grau de Roi and Saintes Marie de la Mer along the coast are wonderful national heritage sites. Throughout the Petite Camargue you will find activities for young and old ranging from horseback riding and birdwatching to boat trips on the Rhone and market shopping.

This is a delightful place and the owners (a Norwegian and French couple with a little baby) are very welcoming.

The house adjoins their property and shares the lovely swimming pool, but we got on well and this was not intrusive. The place is very clean and uncluttered and the facilities good. The aircon (only upstairs) worked well and was very useful in the heat.

Our only reservations were that the beds were rather hard (although they plan to get overmattresses to ease this) and the staircase is a steep spiral - not recommended for the very old or very young. The loo is downstairs so if you have to get up in the night, be careful!

The village has all the usual shops with several boulangeries, butchers etc.

We most liked sitting out after dinner watching the evening display of swallows, swifts and bats.
