Ayamonte and Andalucia:
Andalucia is famous for it's flamenco, year round fiestas, and seafood. The beautiful city of Seville is just a 90 minute drive away, and Huelva, where Columbus set sail for the new world is a mere 50 minutes away. Other attractions are the Aquapolis water park at Cartaya (approx. 30 mins away) and the beautiful countryside and national park around Isla Christina. The restaurants in this region serve freshly caught seafood, the beach bars on Isla Canela are particularly good, the sardines and other daily specials are to be recommended.
Beaches and Day Trips:
The region is famous for it's Kite Surfers, the beach at Isla Canela has Kite Surfs for hire, other water sports are available and lessons in Kite Surfing and sailaing are bookable locally. There are numerous beaches stretching from Huelva down to the Portuguese border, some of them are only accessible by foot. Take a picnic and go exploring or take a trip across into Portugal, here you will find more stunning beaches, many of them quite deserted.
Vila Real de San Antonio is across the Guadiana River, which separates Spain from Portugal, you can take the ferry across from Ayamonte or drive across. The town has some excellent restaurants, Portuguese fish stew is particularly good, there are other shops worth exploring and a beach worthy of a visit. Monte Gordo is further along the Portuguese coast, this pretty town is worth a visit as is the castle which you will see looking down from it's hilltop position.

Green fees are lower along the Spanish Algarve, and the courses are quiter than those to be found along the Portuguese Algarve. There is a course on Isla Canela and also at Islantilla, which is a national standard course. Other courses can be found at Costa Esuri, El Rompido and Nuevo Portil. Across the border into Portugal you will find courses at Castro Marim, Quinta de Cima and Quinta da Ria.
