Broughton-in-Furness makes an excellent base to explore the less frequented and more tranquil parts of the Lake District. This picturesque and historic village has a good selection of quality shops and award-winning pubs - all within a few minutes walk of Lowfield.
Low level walks abound, such as around Tarn Hows while in Broughton itself a disused railway track leads to woodland and ponds. Cycling is also popular with an extensive set of mountain bike trails in nearby Grizedale Forest. Bikes can also be hired from the mountain sports shop in Broughton.
Coniston Water and Coniston Old Marn are under half an hour's drive away with museums and stately homes to visit, a steam gondola and boats to enjoy the lakeside with and stunning mountain scenery to admire. The central lakes (Windemere, Ambleside) are within an hour's drive along scenic roads.
The coast is also close by with miles of beaches and dunes to explore together with owl and wildlife sanctuaries.
