Nearby villages and towns to visit:
Just a short way down the coast from Southwold you will find the quaint and historic town of Aldeburgh. Here you will see a traditional sea side town with many interesting and individual shops as well as many super restaurants which mainly specialise in fish dishes. The fishermen still sell their catch of the day from the beach side huts and the two fish and chips shops sell the freshest fish for which they have won awards. Just before you reach Aldeburgh there is the Victorian model village of Thorpeness which is centred around the Mere where you can hire a boat and row around the lake.
Snape Maltings are just a few miles further on where the yearly Aldeburgh Festival is held. Here you will find an interesting gift shop with food hall, art gallery, concert hall and cafe, all set on the banks of the river which makes delightful walking.
Woodbridge is a few miles on which is a pretty market town, situated on the River Deben, again with interesting independent shops and restaurants.
