Photos and Description of this Agios Adrianos holiday cottage Nestled in a traditional farming village outside the costal town of Nafplion.

Tucked away down a narrow lane the road ends and you enter a secret garden with no immediate neighbours. In front of you is the old farm house, still in need of some renovation but nestled in the gardens, with orange groves behind it and pergolas with vines in front of it sits an ideal holiday cottage. The sitting room, with a sofa bed for two, is light with windows that look across the pool and the garden. The bedroom with double bed has patio windows which open onto a large terrace with table and chairs for 'al fresco' dining, which in turns spills out under the vines which are carpeted with grass. The pool is just the right size for a turn or two in the evening to keep fit or for all day fun if you have nothing but splashing and keeping cool in mind. There is a paved area to lounge on and lawns to loll about on. There are no visible neighbours that overlook the cottage and the farm house but you can hear the goat bells as they come and go in the morning and evening from the village.

This charming cottage is in a small traditional village in the bay of Argolida. The sound of goat bells drift from the surrounding fields and the village square boast two cafes bursting with local farmers, satisfied that their sons have safely taken over the day to day running of the orange and olives groves. It is the unspoilt, traditional side of Greece. 5 km away is the old town of Nafplion with its narrow streets, marble paved square and choice of tavernas along the sea front. This old capital of Greece has something of interesting from the top of the hill top castle of Palamidi down to the island fort (Bourtzi) in the bay. Also within a short drive from the cottage is the blue flag bay of Carathona, the famous ancient palace of Mycenae , the great walls of Tiryns, the amphitheatre of Epidavros, an unusual cave church, an ancient Greek pyramid (!), a kite surfing school, pony and carriage rides, cliff edge walks, street markets, curiosity shops, in short, something for everyone.

We ask you to refrain from smoking inside the cottage.

The pool and gardens: Please note that we use a minimum of chemicals in the pool, and although we monitor the quality of the water closely, it may sometimes appear cloudy. But we prefer this to an excess of chlorine. Likewise we do not use chemicals like weedkiller in the garden. This gives a very natural and relaxed feel to your surroundings. The vines produce an abundence of grapes which you can pick straight of the branches when they are ripe and the very young peach tree boasted two peaches last year. We planted an apple tree this autumn so maybe we will also have apples in 2010. No Smoking Inside. Sorry, we ask you not to smoke inside the cottage. If you chose to smoke outside please be aware that fires start easliy in Greece and your cottage is amongst orange trees and dry grass. You will need to take care with your ash and cigarette ends.

The town of Nafplion: Nafplion is 4km from your Agios Andrianos. Naflio was the first capital of Greece and what attracts the visitor is the old medieval and neoclassical city with marble pavings, wooden balconies, bougainvilleas that overflow from walled courtyards, springs, ancient fountains, the square of Constitution with the old Turkish baths (film and stage theater today) and coffee shops. Palamidi, the castle atop the hill, overlooks all of Nauflio. You can climb this by it's 999 steps or, if you want to take it easy, take the road around the back! Bourzti is the name of the isalnd fort in the bay and there are boat trips across running regularly (4 euros per person). On Saturdays and Wednesday there is the local produce market on one of the more major roads in Nafplio which has become quite a big market with cloths stalls and flower stalls and so. Naflio has a attractive 'town beach' which has a cafe and changing rooms

The surrounding area: Argolida, the area in which Nafplio lays is rich in everything. The most well know archaeological sites are all within a hours drive, Mycenae, Agommenom 'bee hive' tomb, Epidavros Amphitheater, the great Cyclopian wall of Tirins. There are also a great variety of beaches. Some with all the pedalos, banana boats, glass bottomed boats and lilo. Others with Kite Surfing school and diving center. There also the Blue Flag award winning Carathona beach with is long stretch of sand and crytsal clear waters. This is an agricultural area rich orange and and olive groves. Recent improvement to the roads network has made the area very accessible and within two hours of landing at the airport you can be sitting sipping your ouzo gazing up at Palamidi basking up the sun. What more could you want.

Greek Idyll

DavCal Crich, Derbys. England
Review Submitted: July 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Being seasoned travellers around Greece for almost ten years, we have come to expect varying standards with accommodation of all grades. We have always arrived without booking in advance, and viewing as seen on the day; if acceptable = stay!
This year (2009) we took the brave decision to book without first seeing (in real-life) the accommodation we were going to stay in. What were we to expect?
Agios Adrianos is not of the easiest to find, unlike most Greek villages/towns, it doesn’t seem to want to be recognised by its own roadside village in/out signs!
From booking to arrival and finally departing – the owners have been extremely helpful and the perfect hosts.
Arrival at the gate to the cottage - the quietness of the area meets you – wonderful. Along a white pebbled path beneath a pergola of succulent grape vines, the cottage comes into view. Unassuming but perfectly placed. There is an air of peace tranquillity, homeliness!
Inside we are met with a place that, the pictures on the website do not do justice to. Modern, well laid out kitchen, which any discerning chef would appreciate. The bathroom, well above greek standards, plenty of hot water. Bedroom – a good size and plenty of storage, and a very comfortable bed. The ceilings throughout are high and add to the overall feeling of inside space. (possibly a space that could be utilised with a small mezzanine floor for a sleeping area for one)! The whole cottage has been thoughtfully and extensively equipped and if you are an avid reader there is a small library of books to help wend the time away whilst relaxing outside.
The garden/patio is of good proportions and the veranda offers shade whilst taking the sun during the hottest part of the day. The afternoon breeze brings with it the aroma of the mint and lavender growing on the patio.
And the pool – clear, cool, and well maintained, sits waiting tantalising you into its glistening water,
The property is outside of Nafplio, so if you wanted to be mobile you would need either a vehicle or local taxis. But the village does boast one or two restaurants and a mini market, butchers, chemist, and the owners of these are pleasant and want to help!
Any negatives or problems – No – other than leaving this little piece of Paradise to return to reality!! And once people have been they will be rebooking very soon.
