Photos and Description of this Aspiran holiday house Spacious, bright, comfortable home between hills & sea in the Herault

Built in 1874, but sympathetically renovated over the last 2-3 years, this delightful 'maison vigneronne' offers a real slice of French village life but with the outlook you would expect from a home deep in the countryside . Exposed beams, original floor tiles, and period furniture give this family home an authentic and well-loved feel. With 120sqm of bright airy living space, including good-sized bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, this is a home to relax in and enjoy. Not only does the house have a large, sunny terrace perfect for dining on relaxed summer evenings, but a flight of stone steps lead down to a big, very private, courtyard garden where you can barbecue, play boules, or just laze under the shade of the mulberry tree with a good book and a glass of locally-produced wine.

Still largely surrounded by its 12th Cent. ramparts, Aspiran is a vibrant village (with bakery, grocery, post office, pharmacy, cafe and wineries) in the heart of the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region. Lying between the charming market town of Clermont l'Herault (with Lac Salagou just beyond - great for walking and watersports) and historic Pezenas - a favourite with tourists and antique hunters, Aspiran is less than an hour from the sea, and much closer to some lovely spots on the river Herault. The beautiful city of Montpellier, with its maze of narrow lanes brimming with fascinating places to shop and dine, is within 45 mins. Slightly further afileld, but well worth a day trip are Beziers and the Canal du Midi, the mysterious Cathar castles to the south and, one hour's drive north, the famous Millau viaduct. Natural sites such as the Cirque de Navacelles, Cirque de Moureze and the caves at Demoiselle, Clamouse and Roquefort, make Aspiran an ideal base to explore this wonderful area

Notes: The house is heated in winter by a woodburning stove and electric radiators. In the summer, bedrooms are cooled by ceiling fans. An enormous 'cellar' on the ground floor has plenty of space for parking (alongside the wine press that the room was built to house). This space also contains the washing machine, hot water tank and a second fridge/freezer. The kitchen is very well-equipped with everything - and more - that you would expect from a holiday home. As well as the antique walnut dining table (which can be extended to easily accommodate six), there is a terracotta-tiled table for six on the large terrace adjoining the dining area - with glorious views out towards the distant Cevenne mountains. This really is the perfect spot for a lazy summer supper. PLEASE NOTE: all living accommodation is on the first floor of the house - accessed by staircase - so the house would not be suitable for wheelchair users or those who have difficulty with steps.

A wonderful holiday home in the South of France.

Just got back from a fantastic week in this great house in the south of France. The house itself was very comfortable with every thing you need, tastefully decorated & nice big comfortable beds, geat showers & to my wifes delight a full size bath!
The terrace outside was great for eating & drinking on while enjoying the views (and a nice cool breeze in the evenings!). The garden below offered great shade for BBQ'ing, nice & private & well looked after. The village itself was charming with shop, chemists, bar & a great bakers, especially for the coissants!
The location couldn't be better, just 45 mins from fantastic beaches at Sete & Adge, close (just five minutes) from one great river to swim in with plenty of others in the area, the best caves I've ever been in close by ( especially on a really hot day, they cool you down well!) & a huge lake near by which was great for swimming & spending the day at. Plenty to see & do in the local area!
The local restaurants were pretty good too! had a coule of great meals out & not costing a fortune.
All in all a great stay & will be back again!!

Great house, great view

Review Submitted: July 24, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
My wife and I stayed for 10 days in this property with our two sons and It's hard to fault it. The location is wonderful, with beautiful views from the terrace out onto the surrounding hills. The house itself has been very well restored, with good modern features, but you still feel you are in a traditional old village house. It's got a nice feel to it. Dinners on the terrace or down in the courtyard - hard to choose which was best! The house lived up to its description and was clean and well maintained. I'd say the owners give very good customer service, with lots of little tips about things to do in the area. The village itself is lovely and the locals seemed very friendly. It's a good place to use as a base for touring the area. We'll be going back to stay in the house in a year or so.
