Ortona dei Marsi is a mediaeval village on a over 1000 mt high mountain. The village offers clean air, pure water and a quiet atmosphere, together with bars, restaurants etc.. It is located in the beautiful National Park of Abruzzo, one of the most ancient and largest Italian Park, a nature reserve for i.a. bear, chamois, fox, wolf, deer and eagle. The surroundings offer over 150 trekking and mountain bike itineraries, horse riding, birdwatching, photo safari and ski slopes. It is close to the National Park of Gran Sasso, the highest mountain of Appennini and is close to L'Aquila, for centuries the capital of Abruzzo.
The Adriatic seaside with its clean beaches is at about 45 minutes drive.
Rome can be reached in approximately one hour by car or by frequent buses.
