Golfers traveling to courses situated in the Baix and Alt Emporda countryside are exploring untouched territories. What they find is beautiful countryside, peace and tranquility, along with outstanding Catalan restaurants set inside ancient Masias (farmhouses). In the last decade the Costa Brava has become host to nine excellent golf courses (not a bad one amongst them) four of which are some of the best in Europe. Costa Brava golf courses are rapidly becoming known as Spain’s best golfing destination. Those closest include Pals, Peralada, Girona, Gualta and Emporda. The Costa Brava has a climate that’s perfect for golf. Along the coastline, the region usually enjoys year-round bright, sunny and mild weather with an average yearly temp of 16 degrees centigrade. It’s protected by the Pyrenees Mountains in the north and the warm Mediterranean to the east. A warm jet stream helps keep the region pleasantly bright and mild during the winter. Shirt-sleeves golf in November and February.
skiing:
The nearest ski resorts are within 90 minutes to two hours drive away and day passes are available. Resorts close to the nearest ski station, Vallter 2000, include: Vall de Núria (10 km), Bolquere Pyrenees 2000 (17 km), Espace Cambre d'Aze (17 km), Eyne 2600 (17 km), Font Romeu (20 km).
what to do in and around l'escala:
L’Escala is a traditional town and fishing port on this unspoilt part of the Costa Brava. It’s the perfect base for year round sunshine, secluded bays, coastal walks and archaeological sites. While you are here you really should take a trip to the wonderful city of Barcelona but there are also other things we would recommend all within half an hour's drive away or less.
The Ruins of Empuries: Site of the first Greek Colony in Spain set up in 600BC. It is close to the charming village of Sant Marti d’Empuries which has wonderful beaches and views of the Bay of Roses and several good restaurants – a great pit stop after visiting the Greek and Roman ruins. In summer a little open air train runs from L’Escala to Sant Marti and then back to Montgo a beautiful bay and also a must see at the other end of town. They run all day and late into the night and you can hop on and off at various locations.
