Orton Hall is a Grade II listed building dating from 1662 set in its own 7 acre grounds, with lawns, gardens and woodland. The Jacobean Hall is built of local limestone and has been sympathetically restored whilst retaining many original features. The Cromwell Suite lies on the Ground Floor and provides luxurious self contained accommodation. It comprises a comfortable lounge with dining area overlooking the Lawns, well equipped kitchen, romantic double bedroom with large 4-poster bed and bathroom with shower over. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. Guests are invited to make full use of all communal facilities including the wood panelled Great Hall with its comfortable seating, imposing fireplace, pool table and Baby Grand Piano, Laundry Room and magnificent grounds. A short walk leads to the centre of Orton village which has a pub serving food, local ales and fine wines, well stocked village shop and PO, Kennedy's Chocolate Shop and welcoming church of All Saints.

Orton is a small historic village, now famed for its monthly Farmers' Market and its Chocolate Factory, Shop and Tea Rooms. The Orton Fells provide a tranquil, scenic backdrop to the village. Much of this dramatic limestone scenery can be freely explored on foot, cycle or horseback and was used in the filming of 'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall'. The peace is only broken by the sounds of the curlew and the skylark and the area is a haven for rare wildlowers and orchids. Orton is situated midway between Kendal and Penrith and provides a perfect base to explore the Lake District, Upper Eden Valley or the Western Dales of Yorkshire. Cumbria's Lake District holds tourist attractions galore and was the home of Beatrix Potter. Sedbergh is developing a reputation as a book town to rival Hay on Wye and is an easy drive away past the undiscovered peaks of the Howgills. Orton lies on Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk and is only 8 miles from stations on the Settle to Carlisle railway

Notes: In addition to the apartment's facilities guests staying at Cromwell have shared access to the communal facilities of Orton Hall. These include the Great Hall, laundry room and toilet with hand basin. In the Great Hall guests can appreciate the oak panelled grandeur and magnificent fireplace from numerous comfortable seats. There are coffee tables and guests are welcome to bring drinks and enjoy the views over the rear garden into the woodland area. There is a pool table and musicians can show their skills on the baby grand piano. The laundry room has a washer and dryer which are coin operated. Outside, guests are welcome to enjoy shared access to approximately 7 acres of gardens and lawn with many magnificent trees and woodland walks. Seats are provided at various pleasant locations around the grounds. In Summer picnics can be enjoyed on the lawns. Parking is to the front of the Hall and is approached by a gated gravel driveway.

Great location, well equipped and maintained apartment.
Ideal place for exploring the lakes area with easy access to motorway north or south. Local pub in walking distance provides decent food & beer too.
