This is a beautiful house, superbly converted and equipped. The position on a very steep hillside is wonderful, though isolated - a car is essential. The kitchen is efficient and well suited to catering for up to 10 guests and the bathrooms are handsomely equipped: all 4 have showers but there is only one actual bath - the hot water supply seems inexhaustible! The bedrooms are handsomely furnished and extremely comfortable.
Incidentally, the house is not suitable for very young children - the beautiful Travertino staircase is steep and of course lethally hard should anyone fall. Elderly guests might find the climb, at least to the second floor, trying too. The pool, which is lovely and provided with every possible comfort in the shape of loungers and umbrellas, is unfenced, though a good distance uphill from the house. At the time of writing the garden isn't yet planted up, but if it matches the very high standard of the house, it will be lovely. The views are dazzling. The provision for older children and teenagers - 2 flat-screen TVs and plenty of games, movies and DVDs - was much appreciated.
The owner of the property provided copious information, all highly accurate and helpful, and the house managers, Liz and Barry, were very helpful and welcoming, so we felt immediatley at home. We didn't try out many of the recommended restaurants as we hired an excellent local cook and were mostly happy lazing at home, but those we did were passable. The wine is generally rather moderate in quality, though cheap. Nor did we do much sightseeing, with the exception of the wonderful Crivellis at Monte San Martino - sightseeing to such hotspots as Ascoli Piceno and Urbino requires long drives on very twisty roads which our teenagers disliked.
To sum up, I would certainly recommend Casa Ginestra to friends and we will hope to return: we all loved it.
