The village of Calviá, south west of Palma, is a pretty Majorcan village nestling in open countryside at the foot of the Tramuntana mountain. The village is well preserved with traditional Majorcan stonehouses, narrow streets, small shops, and some nice Majorcan restaurants and cafés. Every Monday, the most typical market with food stalls, clothes, craftsmanship etc. takes place.
Excursions on horseback are organized in the village, and there are a number of hiking routes in the vicinity.
A series of sandy beaches, such as Portals Nous, Palma Nova, Santa Ponsa, Costa de la Calma, on the southwest coast, is about 10 minutes drive away. Palma City is about 20 minutes away, and the airport approx. 25 minutes.
