Villa Amalia is located on the brow of a small hill just above the tiny village of Filipos and just a five minute drive from the village of Vrysses, (famous for its tall plane trees and its tasty yogurt and honey), where you can find a handful of tavernas, cafes, an excellent bakery, a butchers and a couple of small mini-markets.
The pretty village resort of Georgioupolis, where you can find one of the islands longest sandy beaches, can be reached in just 10 minutes by car. Again you can find most practical facilities you might need here as well as an excellent choice of tavernas. You can also hire pedaloes for exploring the attractive little estuary that flows into the village.
The villa is also extremely well located for exploring. Lake Kournas, a picturesque freshwater lake, is close by and the islands fantastic Venetian harbour towns, Chania and Rethymnon, are easily accessible from here. And the undeveloped south coast can also be easily reached in less than an hour by car.
