La Belle Grange is a beautifully renovated 3 bedroomed barn conversion. The barn's stylish interior is a blend of attractive original features, such as exposed stonework and beams, solid oak flooring, together with contemporary fittings. For example, all bedrooms have en-suite shower and toilet; large modern well equipped kitchen; spacious open plan lounge and dining area; plus underfloor heating for out of season lets. 3 Double beds + 1 Single bed (if required). (Sleeps 6 or 7). Extra toilet downstairs. The outside space includes a large sunny patio area and a shaded loggia where you can relax and enjoy a good book and a glass of wine. A gas BBQ is available. 2 adult cycles available to loan from the owners. La Belle Grange is set within a lovely walled garden with views of open countryside and the 13th Century village church. The owner's, Phil and Christiine, who live in the farmhouse next door to La Belle Grange, are available during your stay should you need help or advice

La Belle Grange is situated in the charming rural village of Souvigne. Local amenities include the market towns of Villefagnan, Ruffec and Aigre. The nearby Blue Flag leisure lake with beach, childrens' play area, cafe as well as fishing. The local countryside offers quiet lanes and tracks for walkers and cyclists. Within an hour are the attractive mediaeval towns of Angouleme, Cognac, Poitiers and Saintes, all boasting excellent shopping facilities and superb cafes and restaurants. The Poitou Charentes region has at least 15 excellent golf courses. La Belle Grange is within easy reach by car of Futuroscope, La Rochelle, Isle de Re, Limoges and the preserved ruins of World War II village Oradour Sur Glane. Romanesque architecture abounds in this area. There are also fine examples of Roman architecture including the amphitheatre at Rouilac and Roman baths at Chassenon. Further afield, Bordeaux, Tours and the chateaux of the Loire are all within 2 hours and are great for a full day out.

Additional information about rental rates

  • A reservation fee (non returnable) of 25% of the full cost is payable immediately to secure booking, the balance is payable no later than 8 weeks before the arrival date.

    A security deposit of 250.00 euros or £200.00 is payable with the balance to cover minor breakages, damage and cleaning (returned by post 2 weeks after departure).

    La Belle Grange is available to you from 4:00 pm on your arrival date and we ask that you depart before 10:00 am on your departure date to allow us time to prepare the property for our next guests.

    Bed linen is included in the rental rate (provided weekly).
    Towels and household linen are not included but are available at a small additional cost, please enquire.
    Heating is not included but is available at an additional cost of 60 euros per week.

A cot with mattress is available (we do not provide linen for the cot). Child safety gate fitted at top of stairs. Bedroom 1 has solid oak flooring, beamed ceiling and electric radiator heating (available at extra cost). Walking, Cycling: The Charente department has over 1000 kilometres of way marked trails, following mainly circular routes around lakes, through forests, via a Roman amphitheatre or simply over the gentle rolling Charentaise countryside, with views of vineyards, fields of summer sunflowers, poppies, wild flowers or arable crops. We are able to offer help with choosing locations and with route planning and have a selection of local books and IGN maps (ordnance survey) available to loan. For guests wishing to do point to point walks, we are able to offer drop off and pick up. So if, for example, you wish to follow the tow-path along La Charente river for a while, no problem.

Golf: The Poitou Charentes region has at least 12 golf courses, from the links at La Rochelle, parkland at Cognac (play amongst the vines) to the testing La Preze at Montbron (lots of water & wood). A lot of the courses have either 27 full holes or 18 full and 9 par 3 holes. Most offer coffee, bar, snacks and full restaurant facilities. We are able to offer help locating golf courses to suit your handicap or playing needs. Tee reservations can be made on your behalf before you arrive. Transport to and from the courses can be arranged if required.

Annual Events: Many local towns and cities have annual events and festivals. Among these are: January - Festival de la Bande Designee (cartoon festival) - Angouleme. Museum open all year. May - Metisse Musique concerts (African rythms) - Angouleme and surrounding area. June/July - La Rochelle International Film Festival July - Cognac Blues Passions (week long international music festival) - Cognac (2009, B B King, Duffy). August - Confolens Festival International de Folklore (week long intercultural exchange including performances by folk singers, musicians and dancers). September - Circuits des Remparts (classic car racing through the streets) - Angouleme.
