Notes: The ground floor accommodation comprises a comfortable living area (approx 4.2m x 7.5m) and open plan kitchen that is beautifully light and spacious with windows front and back. The living area has a very comfy sofa, armchair and a dining table that can seat up to six people. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with a top of the range stainless steel smeg gas cooker in addition to a full compliment of quality knives, cutlery, crockery, glass and cookware. It is definitely a cook’s kitchen. We are passionate about our food and cooking and wanted to make the kitchen something we would be happy with. You won’t find blunt knives, ineffective cookers and broken crockery here. We have ourselves stayed in too many gites like that, and vowed to make this one a ‘cut above’. Kitchen basics such as spices, salt & pepper as well as fresh herbs and vegetables from our kitchen garden are all provided free for your convenience. as well as fresh eggs from our chickens!

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Seine-Maritime, France

The gite shares 2 acres of delightful Normandy countryside with ‘le vieux presbytere’, a 200 year old former presbytery. It is in a quiet and pretty lane next to the old church in a traditional Normandy village (population 170). Although secluded it is near a small village tabac, 1.5km from the next village which food shops and just 10 mins from Aumale and the borders of Picardie. The gite dates back to the same period but has recently (2009) been completely renovated to an extremely high standard to offer a superb level of accommodation and comfort. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with a top of the range stainless steel smeg gas cooker in addition to a full compliment of quality knives, cutlery, crockery and cookware. It is definitely a cook’s kitchen. We are passionate about our food and cooking and wanted to make the kitchen something we would be happy with. You won’t find blunt knives, ineffective cookers and broken crockery here.

There is a private rear garden/terrace (approx 5m x 10m) with beautiful views over the countryside and a gate that opens onto the garden of the main house that you are very welcome to use. The gite terrace also has a table for six people and an efficient gas/charcoal barbecue that can be up to speed in 15 mins at the press of a button. There is outside lighting for late night summer dining al fresco. The nearby town of Aumale has a fantastic outdoor swimming pool plus lovely bars, restaurants and individual food shops. Saturdays is market day, where you can see live chickens being sold. Blangy is another nearby town and has a big market on Sunday mornings. Aumale is on the borders of Normandy and Picardie. Picardie has many notable places to visit. The Picardie coast is full of beautiful sandy beaches, shopping and dining in Amiens should not be missed, beautiful parks and gardens to visit, bike-riding, horse-riding and water sports, museums, and gothic cathedrals.

There are bicycles here for your use, we are situated on a plain, so local villages and forests are a very easy level ride. There are big swimming pools in the local towns. The Normandy countryside is genuinely stunning, mile upon mile of rolling hills and huge forests (watch out for the wild boar!) and for those so inclined we have some of the best fishing in Normandy. Fantastic trout and sea-trout fishing on La Bresle, a wonderful chalkstream river that flows from Aumale and enters the sea at Le Treport. Andy is very happy to point you in the right direction with concern to the fishing, being a mad keen fly fisher for wild trout! In fact, we are currently negotiating to buy the rights to our very own private trout lake set in a secluded woodland, fed by a chalkstream. We aim to put two boats on this and it will be available free to guests at the gite. Picardie is a short drive by car and has many wonderful places to visit to keep all the family happy. Watch this space!

Golf: The jewel in the crown of the Opal Coast's golf courses are within a one hour drive of the gite at Le Touquet. Set within superb natural surroundings between the forests and the dunes Le Touquet golf club is one of the most beautiful of European sites. It has two 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course. Nearer to the gite there are also excellent golf courses at Dieppe, Abbeville and Evreux, all within a 30 mins drive. Picardie is also described as a paradise for golfers. Golf de Chantilly, for example, is considered one of the five best clubs in all Europe. Its two 18-hole courses, putting and driving ranges and many other sporting activities are much appreciated by weekender Parisiens. Other courses such as Golf de Saint-Quentin-Mesnil, Golf de Menneville (9-hole) Golf de Champagne and Golf de Val Secret are all near autoroutes (A 26 or A4), while at Bois du Tilleul, tucked away in the magnificent countryside of the Thiérache, you can enjoy 40 hectares of delightful gardens and water features belonging to the nearby château.

A lovely Autumn holiday at le vieux Presbytere

Ray and Sarah Winchester/Hampshire/England
Review Submitted: November 1, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We stayed at Andy and Beverley's lovely gite in October half-term. It was just as described on the website with a comfortable lounge, well stocked kitchen and a downstairs bathroom. Our youngest daughter described it as very cosy and just like being at home. Both bedrooms were a good size and most important of all the beds were extremely comfortable-in fact we all had difficulty getting up in the morning because we all slept so well under the lovely duvets !

As it was late in October we were a little concerned about how warm the gite would be. This was no problem as the heating system was very efficient and the water always piping hot. We would happily stay here in the middle of Winter. Our daughters (13 and 10) enjoyed having the satellite TV and the DVD player. We also used the WiFi.

Andy and Beverley live next door in a lovely house with their great little son. We were glad to have them nearby and they were friendly and helpful at all times.

This region is easy to explore and we went out most days. The city of Amiens is definitely worth a visit with its impressive cathedral and interesting shops and cafes. We took the girls to Amiens zoo which for 10 Euros was good value for money. Other days were spent at Honfleur and Le Touquet on the coast. This is a particularly good region to come to if you want to speak French as little English is spoken here.

This was our first experience of staying in a gite and we would definitely come again and thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

A Relaxing Stay In Rural France

Dave and Sylvia Alicante, Spain
Review Submitted: September 5, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We spent a week in this lovely gite in August 2009 and found it an oasis of peace and tranquillity. The gite is well appointed and equipped with everything necessary to make for an enjoyable holiday including gas BBQ in your own pretty and secluded garden with furniture and lighting to provide a magical effect for a summer evening.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful and there is easy access to the attractive town of Aumale, about 20 mins away with shops, bars, supermarket etc.

The very friendly owners, Andy, Beverley and their young son live close by and offer invaluable help and information as required. Highly recommended.

Le Vieux Presbyterre

Sean & Laura Edenbridge, Kent, UK
Review Submitted: September 3, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We had a wonderful few days at Le Vieux Presbyterre in late August 2009. The gite has been decorated and furnished to a high standard and was without doubt the best we have stayed in.

The owners have gone to great lengths to provide a comfortable, well equipped and well maintained gite.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful and we were made to feel incredibly welcome by the owners as well as by the locals.

The well equipped and furnished kitchen made life incredibly easy and the gas bbq was a real treat. The addition of fresh eggs for breakfast was a great way to start the day.

If you enjoy peace and tranquiility and want to feel that you are a million miles from the stresses, strains and horrible weather of the UK this is the place for you! And only an hour and a half from Calais.

We were made to feel so welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, this is definately a place that we would not hesitate to recommend...... go and see for yourself, it's wonderful!

A wonderfully gite in tranquil surroundings

TimClaydon71 Stevenage, Hertfordshire, UK
Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We stayed at Andy and Bev's gite in August 2009 for 5 days and had a fantastic time.
The owners were incredibly friendly and accommodating and provided fresh eggs every day, which our children loved watching getting picked from the hen house! The kids had the run of the beautiful grounds and garden and loved playing with the cats and Henry the dog.
The gite had only recently been completed, so was immaculate with fully equipped kitchen, English satellite tv and comfortable bedrooms. The gite is situated next to the owner's house in enclosed and safe gated grounds.
The location is rural and tranquil - at night we could see virtually every star in the sky and the only noise we heard were the odd cow in the nearby fields.
It is only a short drive away to reach the nearest town (Aumale) which has a large supermarket and all the other amenities you would expect. The the cities of Amiens and Rouen can also be reached within the hour by car.
There are lots of places to visit in the region - we simply didn't have enough time to do it all! The coast is only about 30 mins away and there is a children's theme park fairly close by too.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already planning our next trip in 2010!

A luxurious Gite in a gorgeous location!

MrsA Reading, Berkshire, UK
Review Submitted: July 27, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We stayed at this Gite in July 2009. It is furnished to a very high standard and the kitchen in particular is very well stocked! We loved the extra touches of having spices, coffee etc already in the cuboards and the readily available veg from the garden, and fresh eggs from the hens! Andy and Beverley were extremely helpful with answering any questions we had about the local area.

The local town is well stocked with great food shops and some lovely restaurants to cater for all budgets, and extremely child friendly.

We had a lovely break away and would thoroughly recommend.
