Unlike the other coastal resorts in Southern Spain the Costa Tropical has remained comparatively unspoiled with its clean beaches, crystal clear sea and no high-rise hotels. This is an authentic Andalucian farming area where agriculture and market gardening rival tourism in the local economy. Typical crops include the custard apple, mangoes, avocados, bananas, citrus fruits, and of course tomatoes. The town of Motril is surrounded by beaches, its own harbour to the south, and the Sierra Nevada mountain range to the north which is a popular ski resort during the cooler months. The typical white village of Salobreña is only 5 minutes away. This area makes an ideal touring base for Southern Andalucia as well as an interesting holiday destination in itself with a wide variety of activities to hand from paragliding and diving to sunbathing and sightseeing. The average year round temperature is 20 degrees with over 300 days sunshine per year.
