Dalyan is a small town on the Mediterranean coast, 20 minutes from Dalaman airport. It is an area of stunning natural beauty - rivers, lake and sea surrounded by mountains and pine forests, now protected from excess development as a conservation area. No large hotels can be built and building is prohibited near the beach in order to protect the endangered loggerhead turtle which nests here. It’s a wonderful place to relax and enjoy this unspoilt corner of the justly famous Turquoise coast. Take a boat downriver to Turtle Beach or wallow in the hot mud on Koycegiz Lake. You can also sample the excellent selection of very reasonably priced restaurants in this friendly little market town and visit the inviting little bars lining the riverbank. For the more energetic, the dramatic ruins of ancient Kaunos are just across the river and it is possible to plan a visit to other major sites including Ephesus and Xanthus. You could book a mini-cruise by gulet around the coast.
