Medina Cottage/House was previously an hotel, built in 1862 and located just a stones throwfrom the beach. It is approached from the Esplanade by a short but steep hill to a private road. There is parking outside. The apartment has it's own entrance, consisting of an extension to the original house which constitutes the main sleeping area, a double bed, bunks and flexible sleeping (there is an optional sofabed in the lounge/diner). A small corridor leads into original part of house and Bathroom with large corner bath with shower and a seperate shower enclosure, toilet and basin. Newly added Kitchen. Double aspect lounge/diner leading to verandah for eating/drinking and ocean viewing. Access to footpath leading to road and alternative walk to town, coastal path etc. Land to front of house was previously a boathouse but now trying to be a seaside garden to sit, BBQ or catch the last rays of sun! Chickens living on it seems to have messed up the plan but we love 'em!

Ventnor has it's own microclimate, hence exotic plant growth and colony's of Wall Lizards thrive here. The Botanic Gardens are within walking distance along our beautiful coastal path to Steephill Cove and beyond. Ventnor has once again achieved the Blue Flag for it's clean beach /water quality and Lifeguards. A paddling pool surrounding a mini Isle of Wight for the little ones, has recently been enhanced with new Eco toilets and a brand new cafe. The nearby harbour has brilliant boat trips, a Fishery where you can buy fresh fish, lobsters & crabs daily. There is a great choice of places to eat and new and varied foods available including our first, highly recommended Indian restaurant for takeaway. A supermarket is in the town along with interesting shops, cafes, chemists, banks, & The Winter Gardens. Good food pubs and cafes overlooking sea are on the Esplanade. A flat coastal path from the Harbour takes you to Bonchurch, a historical quaint village and the unique Bonchurch Inn.

Notes: Our house is on a private/no through road and is up a short but steep hill and the apartment is on the first floor which was originally the main house entrance, so there are steps up to the apartment, but once in, it is all on one level. It is not therefore strictly unsuitable for elderly or infirm, as long as they can get up some steps with help. Alma Road is very short but challenging. Down is easy and leads to beach, Esplanade and superb walks.

Perfect location, beautiful views

We stayed here for a week in September (2 adults, one 2 year old and a big bump). THe apartment is light and bright, and in the perfect location to walk to the beach, town, and to explore the area. The steep hill and steps up to the front door were not an issue for us and it was very safe for our toddler. We had good weather but even on the one rainy day there was lots to do and the apartment is very comfortable to spend time relaxing in. We loved the seaside decor, and waking up to the sound of the waves. Eileen and her family were very welcoming and made us feel right at home. We'd definitely come back and highly recommend Medina Cottage for a small family.

We stayed at this property - myself and my 2 young children, my sister and her teenage daughter and our mother for 5 nights. Lovely apartment, location perfect for going to the beach and eating places, ice creams, small amusement arcade, lovely coastal walks (very steep in places) weather was lovely. The appartment was not quite finished although it did not matter to us(we were the first guests) owners have more things they want to do but beautifully decorated and really clean.All the family very friendly and relaxed. I had not visited Isle of Wight before but I would say that Ventnor is a really good choice and would definately go again.The children loved it and even my sister's teenage daughter enjoyed it!
