The Border Country, comprising North Northumberland and the Southern Scottish Borders, is a place of magnificent wide sky scenery, with vast expanses of untouched countryside ranging from rolling hills and rugged, windswept moorland, to gentle valleys and the 25 miles of protected golden sands and secluded rocky coves that make up the Heritage coastline.
Darnick was described by Nigel Tranter, in his 'Illustrated Portrait of the Border Country', first published in 1972, as being a delightful place -'red stone amongst tall trees, with its ancient tower-house still inhabited in a walled garden in the midst'.
Only a short walk away is the town of Melrose, ‘a small town with a big history’. Every year in April Melrose becomes the focus of international attention hosting the highly coveted ‘Melrose Rugby Sevens’. For outdoor enthusiasts Melrose is the starting point of the popular 64-mile St Cuthbert's Walk which criss-crosses the borders on its way to Holy Island.
