Cascais holiday apartment

Delightful apartment in a quiet area but very close to all the attractions of Cascais as well as the train and bus station. The apartment is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The outdoor terrace and garden is great with a seating area and table for eating- we spent most of our time out there and were able to sit out well into the evening at the end of October.

There is no need for a car as the public transport is good and everything you need is within walking distance. A wonderful bonus is that there is free bike hire available in the centre of town (yes, it really is free) and you can take the cycle track that follows the coast westward from Cascais. As well as the lovely sandy beaches, there is much else to see and do: easy day trips to Lisbon, bus to Sintra, museums, new Paula Rego art gallery (building is amazing even if you don't want to bother with the paintings), the lighthouse is well worth a visit (it has been converted to provide exhibition space and a small cafe and if you time it right you can go up the lighthouse itself which is still a functioning lighthouse).

There are a few little shops around the apartment including a friendly butcher, a very nice little coffee shop serving up a cup of coffee for a euro, a great bakery that is so busy in the morning that you have to take a numbered ticket to get served (opposite the post office)- excellent custard tarts and good selection of bread. Restaurants are numerous and variable in quality and price- the ones in the alleyways and streets behind the main square appear to be cheaper than those on the main drags.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this apartment and Cascais, indeed we hope to return ourselves in the near future.
