Il Castello was built by the Counts San Bonifacio in front of the original building, because of the need to extend to local stores, stables, for the production of agricultural activities and for courts. Part of these premises were culled when, in 1882, following the route of the Adige, the State ordered to form impressive embankments. Inside the yard of the Castle was the 'Column of Justice ', the symbol of the Counts of Judicial Jurisdiction in the the Veneta Republic. Due to a lightning strike the statue was shattered and, in 1786, was replaced by a block of stone on top that recalls the restoration. You access the Castle by a magnificent handmade iron gate that takes you to a spectacular park of two acres wide with a romantic lake populated by swans. You enter the Castle-Palazzina through a venetian-gothic door that takes you into a sublime living room with fireplace interconnecting with a medieval dining room.

Villa Bartolomea is located in the southern part of the province of Verona, on the banks of the Adige river, 6 Km south of Legnago. It is linked to Verona, Legnago and Rovigo, as well as to the Verona Int. Airport, by the rapid motorway Transpolesana. Easy access from Verona to the Milan - Venice and Modena-Brennero Highway and, from Rovigo, to the Padova - Bologna Highway. VERONA IT'S A MUST: Verona, the largest city in the region after Venice. Additional information about rental rates

  • All the above rental prices (charged up to 14 people) are per week or per night for short break and are all sub-divided according to the rental seasons. No discount for fewer people since the villa is rented entirely.

    RATES INCLUDE: LCD TV 32' with satellite and DVD, Internet BROADBAND/ADSL 7mega with Wi-Fi, BBQ, bed linen, bath and kitchen towels, TV, water, electricity, gas, cleaning lady (afternoon housekeeping three hours 2 times a week), maintenance of the garden and pool, baby bed, high chair and if you need we can make reservations for restaurants, theatres, museums and operas.
    RATES DO NOT INCLUDE: security deposit (800euro), additional bed (if exceeded the capacity of 14), final cleaning (250euro), to be paid in cash on the premises, (ON REQUEST AT EXTRA COST: We can provide a professional chef).
    PAYMENT: 60% of rent is to be paid at the moment of booking as deposit. The remainder is due upon arrival. On receipt of the deposit the booking is definitive
  • SECURITY DEPOSIT: upon arrival we ask our guests to give us 800euro for any damage or breakage which may occur during their stay. When you depart the money will be given back, unless it has to be used partly or fully for any damage.
    CANCELLATION by the client: Once the booking is confirmed, if you have to cancel it, we will keep:
    30% of the deposit up to 4 months (120 days) before arrival.
    60% of the deposit as from the 119th day before the date of arrival.
    100% of the deposit as from the 58th day before the date of arrival.
    CHANGEOVER DAY: arrival and departure - normally reservations are made from Saturday to Saturday but we could also consider short stay with a minimum of 3 nights.
    Unless otherwise agreed, the check-in is between 4.00pm to 8.00pm and the Check-out by 10.00am. Anyone with a late flight and wishing to leave their luggage somewhere for the day, are requested to liaise with the owners.
  • DISCOUNTS: Il Castello offers discounted rates throughout the year: 5% off for guests that book a week or more with one year advance - 10% off for guests that stay for 2 weeks (valid during mid-season) - 15% off for guests that stay for 3 or more weeks (valid during mid-season periods) - 20% off for last minute bookings (three weeks before the arrival date).

THE HISTORY: This feature ancient Castle, restored in the early twentieth Century, in Romanesque-Venetian style has tied much of his life to San Bonifacio family and feud of this family on these lands. The extensive research conducted by local historians agree that San Bonifacio, produced in 1433 the feudal jurisdiction over Villa Bartolomea, decided to erect a noble home in this country and the result was without doubt the construction of this 'building' that rises in Altavilla near the river Adige. A splendid example in Venetian-Gothic style of the fifteenth Century that it is still possible to admire and which coincides, as style and date of construction, with the arrival in the village of the San Bonifacio family. The oldest part of the Castle is the central part of the facade features a porrale above which is an elegant three-mullioned window. Windows blown glass and embedded with lead in old Venetian style, help to give elegance to the whole complex.

On the right, a large angular balcony, complete the corner solution of the building in which background stands the mighty tower. The facade is characterized by rows of Gothic windows axes metrically arranged by number. The interior is characterized by large living rooms adorned with artistic fireplaces and doors decorated. Scenographic the large hall inside the garden that leads to the main floor. The complex was formed by other buildings, La 'Fratina' used to give housing to the friers on way during Lent. There is also a church and the characteristic 'giazzara' to keep the ice. Beside the villa there was also a port: a port for ships that were transporting goods and products from Verona to Polesine and vice versa.

For some centuries, the Castle was a rich and luxurious stay. Was given to its former splendor in 1935 by Count San. Bonifacio. The entire complex is composed of manor house, majestic park, garden and an agricultural fund, which stretches along the bank of river Adige: nearby there are also the square labside and the bell tower of the first Romanesque church of the XII-XIII Century. Some local historians believe that although the ancient Castle was built on an even older building, probably used as a permanent presence along the river Adige. The large park was built following the style of the English park and is complete with pond, bridge and paths.
