Sugar Hill holiday apartment "Lumiere Sugar Hill Barbados"

We’ve just returned from 2 wonderful weeks at Lumière with our 4 year old son and highly recommend it for couples and families with children. This light and airy apartment has all the comforts of home as well as two good sized terraces for al fresco dining and a hot tub. The neutral décor is understated and tasteful with the suggestion of an upmarket hotel. Not a hint of Caribbean rattan in sight. The spacious and very comfortable master bed guaranteed an excellent night’s sleep and the large bathroom was a pleasure.

We found the apartment well equipped, from the multi-media front room to the thoughtfully designed kitchen. We’ve rented apartments in the past where I’ve dreaded cooking in grotty saucepans but not at Lumière. Everything from cutlery to serving dishes was quality, making cooking and eating a joy. And give me that huge American fridge any day! If we needed anything such as a cold box for a beach picnic or for drinks by the pool all we had to do was ask. One thing that really stood out was that Lumière was so efficiently managed and the housekeeper was also so fantastic. We were hugely impressed with the speed at which things got done in such a friendly way. We felt very safe and in excellent hands.

Lumière is in the exclusive gated community of villas and apartments called Sugar Hill, an easy 10 minute drive to the beach, the famous hotels and restaurants of the West Coast, Holetown and the supermarket. Its nearest beach bar is the up-and-coming and impossibly laid-back, Ramshackles, a cool place to hang out on a beach bed, eat lunch and sink a rum punch or three. Back at Sugar Hill there are two lovely swimming pools which are, dare we say it, some of the best in the area (we had a snoop round some of the others). It takes about a minute to walk from the apartment to one of the pools and 4 minutes to the other with its restaurant. Oh yes, and you get free membership to the renowned Mullins Beach Club.

This is an attractive, well run and lovingly looked after apartment which made our holiday everything we had hoped it would be. We highly recommend it.

We returned a week ago from Barbados where we spent 2 weeks at this lovely, luxury apartment. It really was everything we had hoped for and matched the description and photos on the web site. We rarely cooked but the kitchen was equipped with all you needed - we did enjoy breakfast on the terrace though! Tonia (the beautiful cleaner) ensured that the apartment was sparkling clean three times a week. Sugarhill is a really well-maintained, secure complex and has 2 swimming pools for lazing around in. It was so quiet at this time of year that we very often had the pool to ourselves. On our second day we spotted the famous green monkeys running through the complex! Not something we had expected to see. We would recommend hiring a car to enable you to get around to see the island, although we met lots of people who were happy to experience the reggae buses to travel on! Included in the package was Lavere meeting us at the airport to safely deliver us to Sugarhill and returning us (very reluctantly) to the airport for our return trip. We enjoyed many of the restaturants on offer - our favourites being the Lone Star, The Fish Pot (lobster to die for), Tides, Daphnes and Cin Cin. Would avoid Nishi in Holetown for dinner although the outdoor bar is nice for cocktails. Mullins beach is great for socialising with other holiday makers but our favourite was the beach near Ramshackles where we could snorkel and swim with the turtles. Ramshackles offer affordable snacks and meals and do the best rum punch! Although it was the rainy season and did actually rain most days, it did not prevent us from enjoying ourselves. If you are looking for wild nightlife - this is probably not the place for you, as there is nothing on the complex to offer in the way of entertainment. We were more than happy with this - we ate at the restaurant Sasafras twice and found the staff to be professional and friendly. We could have quite easily stayed for longer and were really sad to leave the island - hope to visit again and would definitely recommend this property to friends and family!

This is a wonderful villa in a lovely complex. The facilities are excellent and the maid, Tonya, could not be more efficient or more helpful. The only minor negative was there only being 3 beds when my family of 4 arrived.However Tonya provided us with a folding bed which solved the problem. The beach passes meant we were able to use the private beach which is very clean and well organised, and the two pools on the villa site are equally well maintained and attractive. We had a great week with good weather and wonderful local food.
