Makrigialos is blessed with five separate beaches. the main blue flag sandy beach stretches from the harbour for half a mile providing a safe gently shelving bathing beach ideal for children and family holidays. Couples will also enjoy the variety of beach front bars, tavernas and restaurants which stretch down to the harbour. The main beach offers a wide range of watersports with excellent snorkeling off the rocks at the end of the beach. Makrigialos has its own archaeological site in the remains of a roman villa above the stunning harbour. Just a short drive takes you to secluded beaches and coves, interesting monasteries and hilltop churches, the harbour towns of Sitia and Irepetra with its fantastic Saturday market, waterfront restaurant bars and tavernas.
