Banyuls is a lovely little seaside town on the beautiful Vermillion coast near the Spanish border, where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean.
Originally a traditional Catalan fishing village, Banyuls is now surrounded by the hillside vineyards that produce some of the region’s excellent wines and the locally produced aperitif wine ‘Banyuls’ which is named after the village.
Whatever you are looking for from a holiday, the area has plenty to offer: excellent coastal and mountain walks; rest and replenishment on the beach; diving and snorkeling;artists' trails; historic sites, picturesque villages & interesting towns; good food & wine; sunshine and beautiful natural surroundings.
Banyuls is a relatively undiscovered gem on the French Mediterranean and it remains unspoiled by mass tourism. With its mix of French and Catalan cultures, and just 12 kilometers from Spain, it is perfect for a restful holiday and for exploring on both sides of the border at any time of year.
