Set in the Heart of the old market town of Holmfirth, famous for the home of the popular TV Series 'Last Of The Summer Wine', the house is only a 5 minute walk to the busy village centre, set in the beautiful Holme Valley the property has commanding views over the surrounding countryside, an ideal base for walking and cycling without having to drive anywhere. The Peak District is only a 10 mins away, and Holmfirth has plenty of restaurants, wine bars, cafes, and local pubs (all home cooked food) for dining out. In Holmfirth and the surrounding area, there are plenty of activities for children of all ages. The house has private (enclosed gardens) and attractive decking with furniture for eating outside, there is also a large GAMES ROOM and BAR and 2 TV LOUNGES, (52'plasma) making the property ideal for large families, or 2 families wanting to share,with a separate staircase leading to two of the bedrooms and a bathroom,( this allows large groups a bit of privacy).

'Oaklands' is only a 5 min walk from the busy market town of Holmfirth where you will find plenty of shops, restaurants to suit all tastes. Fans of the TV show 'last of the summer wine' can go on guided tours and bus tours around the areas where the filming takes place. The popular 'Compos' restaurant is a 1 minute walk away. The countryside in the area is stunning and you can literally walk out of the house and be walking or cycling on picturesque paths in minutes, we have detailed information in the house on these treks and walks for your use. The village is right on the edge of the peak district and the pretty town of Glossop is only 20 mins away by car. There are also plenty of wonderful walks around numerous reservoirs within walking distance to the house. Notes: The house is very unique and spacious, and is ideal for 2 smaller families or a larger family altogether, the design of the house is such that it is great for families with teenagers who can have their own space, there is separate TV lounge and games room (with bar) and a further 2 bedrooms with bathroom above which is separate to the main house although it is still adjoined with the huge kitchen being the centrepiece for the house. There is a private lawned area to both the front and rear and 2 patio areas with table and chairs for outside dining. There is ample parking directly in front of the property in its own driveway.

Walking: The property is in the heart of the Holme Valley, which boasts some of the best countryside in Yorkshire and is very famous and popular for its varied walks and treks through stunning scenery. The house is also situated on the edge of the beautiful National Peak District which is easily accessible. There are numerous guided walks to suit all ages and abilities, some of which can be accessed from the house itself without having to drive. We have details of these walks in a booklet in the house, but if you wish to venture further afield and really take in the breathtaking scenery, we would advise that an ordinance survey map of the area is purchased from the local Tourist Information Centre. There are walks around reservoirs, woodland and forests, open moorland and designated open tracks into the most beautiful countryside in the area, some of these tracks link on to the Pennine way.

Cycling / Horse Riding: There are many off road tracks suitable for cycling as well as quiet back roads where there is little or no traffic at all, this coupled with the beautiful surrounding scenery, makes Holmfirth the perfect place to come and cycle. There are countless routes to go on, long or short with varying terrain for all the family. The house is near to the West Yorkshire Cycle Route which is also accessed from the house. There is also an old abandoned railway line which has been tuned into a cycle route from Dunford Bridge and takes you to Pennistone and back which is perfectly flat and ideal for young children and adults alike. HORSE RIDING:- there are 3 equestrian centres nearby to the house, all of which are very good and come highly recommended, they all have their own recommended bridal paths and treks for your pleasure from thier own bases, they hire all the neccessary equipment for all ages, booking is neccessary in peak weeks which we can arrange for you.

Catering: We can provide catering for the property, either cold buffet meals or hot freshly prepared dishes on an evening only, this is at extra cost to the rental price, please ask for more details. We can also arrange for party packs for that special touch, such as suprise balloons and banners with champagne and celebration cakes etc for suprise birthdays and special occasions, please ask for more details and prices.

My family and I stayed at the house in Holmfirth for one week in August. During our stay, we were visited by friends and relatives, some of whom stayed overnight. The property was wonderful, the photographs on the website and the description all lived up to reality (which is not always the case). The property was clean and well maintained - the welcome bottle of wine was most welcome! The owners were helpful and non-intrusive. We did not know the area well, so advice on places to visit was much appreciated. The town of Holmfirth was delightful, small and friendly but large enough to dine out well and shop for daily necessities. We would not hesitate to recommend the property to friends & family - we hope to return soon........
