Evora region holiday farmhouse: Redondo

The Farm House of Herdade da Maroteira is the best self-catering living we have had, and we have had many, in many countries in Europe. We flew to Faro and drove up to Alentejo. The roads are very good, one toll road, so the tour took only around 3 hours. The instructions to find the Farm House were easy to follow.

We were welcomed by the owner Philip and shown the house and the surroundings. A complimentary breakfast, including bacon, eggs from the farm, bread and fruit waited for us in the kitchen and a bottle of Cem Reis, the excellent wine from The Farm. The Farm house was spacious for us, being two couples, and top clean. We enjoyed the mix of Portuguese and British style in furnishing. We wanted to buy the fabric the curtains were maid of with us back to Sweden but failed, lack of time.

The walks in the mornings and afternoons to the pool, accompanied by the family-dogs, along the dusty, winding road surrounded by cork-trees were a relief to the heart and mind. Leaving the pool-area we picked some figs from the trees and ate on the way back to the house. The terrace was the perfect place for the meals with the breathtaking view over the Sierras. We sat out there and saw the sun set and the moon rise while we had our dinners.

We are happy that we choose to visit this part of Alentejo for our first visit to Portugal. The surroundings have so much to offer. We only saw a minor part of all there is to see but it gives us yet another reason to come back again. We visited one of the restaurants in Aldeia da Serra twice and the food was excellent Portuguese food made by a very good chef.
We want to thank the whole family, Margarida, Philip, Liam and Sam for a fantastic stay in your Farm House. We admire you for finding the time to answer all our questions and to sit down and talk to us and thank you Philip for showing us the farm. We are looking forward to come back and hopefully stay for a little longer time.
