The perfect holiday

After driving all day from the north of Portugal we finally arrived in the evening - down a long dusty drive surrounded on both sides by magnificent cork trees. This is the perfect get away, where you can romanticise about life and make new plans for when you return home.
The cottage was scrupulously clean, furniture very nice and the welcome by the hosts warm and friendly.
The swimming pool is quite far from the house, about a 15 minute walk, through the cork trees - a safe distance for our 3 young children who weren't going to hop into the pool, unknown to their parents !!
We all loved the jeep ride through the farm, which is huge, over 2000 acres, and learn so much from philip about cork, rearing black pigs and growing grapes. The wine, Cem Reis, is divine - puts our vinho verde in the north to shame.
There are lots of beautiful walled in towns to see and visit around - we went to Estremoz, Elvas, Vila Viçosa, even Badajoz in Spain.
The best part of the holiday was getting up early and eating breakfast outside on the terrace, walking the English cockers play amongst the hillocks and admiring the cork trees. The weather was perfect, hot and blue skied.
Our son Freddie would say that the best part of the holiday ws playing with Liam.
We all came away inspired and uplifted.
The hosts treated us as part of the family, even inviting us for a barbecue one evening.
Many thanks to Philip, Margarida, Liam and Sam for a very enjoyable holiday in the blistering hot Alentejo.
