How to find us::
By Plane: Geneva Airport is only 75km away By Train: there are stations at Thonon-les-Bains in France (SNCF), and Aigle or Monthey in Switzerland (CFF). By Car: there are two routes into Châtel, either via Thonon-les-Bains in France, or via Monthey in Switzerland. Driving from Calais you can usually get to Châtel in around 9 hours. Our suggested route is motorway from Calais to Besançon, Pontarlier, towards Lausanne, Montreux, Monthey, Morgins, and Châtel.
Winter::
Chatel (1235m/4025ft) is one of the most attractive resorts in the Haute-Savoire region of the French Alps. It is part of the Portes du Soleil, one of the largest ski regions in Europe, covering 12 resorts including Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets in France and Champéry, Torgon and Morgins in Switzerland. In all it has over 650km of ski slopes with 208 lifts all accessible using a single, inclusive ski-pass.
Chatel has an excellent snow record and Le Soli is ideally placed for getting to the ski slopes. The Super Chatel gondola is a short walk away and free buses depart from the market square for the chair lifts in Linga and Pre-la-Joux.
All levels of skiers and snowboarders are well catered for with mile after mile of well groomed runs for intermediates and easy access to a number of high altitude slopes for beginners. For experts, the amount of easily accessible off piste is just phenomenal. There are also a number of good, steep black runs including the infamous 'Swiss Wall'.
Summer::
In the summer season you have access to hundreds of kilometers of mountain biking tracks and mountain footpaths of varying difficulty. There are also man-made mountain biking trails to suit all levels throughout the region with dedicated bike parks at Pre-la-joux and Super Chatel. The lifts are open during July and August making your mountain ascents much easier.
There are 8 tennis courts and a large open air pool within a 10 minute walk of the apartment. Facilities for other activities such as rock climbing, via ferrata, white water rafting, pony trekking and canyoning are also close by.
The pretty towns of Evian and Thonon-les-Bains are both within a 40 minute drive. Here you can catch a ferry to travel across lake Geneva or participate in other beach side activities such as watersking and sailing. These towns also have spa and wellness centers. On the Swiss side, Montreux (home of the world renowned Jazz Festival during the first two weeks of July) is a 40 minute drive away.
Ski:
The Portes du Soleil area boasts 650 km pistes with 267 lifts. 10 Snow parks, 2 half pipes and 4 boarder cross courses.
Chatel has 5 Ski schools, and 26 specialist shops to rent or purchase equipment. The snow record in Chatel is very good but there are also 120 snow making points to ensure great snow cover. There are also a number of waymarked cross country skiing trails and snow shoe walks in the surrounding area.
