La Garde Freinet is a medieval town in the centre of the Massif des Maures. Picturesque roads winding through forests of cork oaks and chestnut groves reach the village where restaurants and shops surround the main square. We enjoy nothing more than to walk into the village in the morning to collect the freshly baked bread and croissants and browse around the market on a Wednesday and Sunday.
There are many places of interest to visit. Below are a few suggestions, but the possibilities are endless:
Grimaud: an appealing village, flowered, winding streets lead to a feudal castle (15 minutes).
St Tropez: a lovely old port, home to the rich and famous (30 minutes).
Ste Maxime: less glamorous than St Tropez but equally great for soaking up the atmosphere (25 minutes).
Aix-en-Provence: reputedly the prettiest town in France (1 hour).
St Paul de Vence: an old hilltop village (45 minutes).
Aquatica, Frejus: largest water fun park on the Côte d’Azur (45 minutes).
Monaco: the glitzy principality famous for the Grand prix and casino (2 hours).
Gorges du Verdon: deepest gorges in Europe (2 hours.)
