Location: Dawlish in United Kingdom
Dawlish has the benefit of a sheltered location yet proximity to the wide open spaces of Dawlish Warren and the Exe and Teign estuaries. Teignmouth, Shaldon, Newton Abbot and Starcross are a short drive away with Exeter less than 15 miles. Dawlish Water or The Brook almost cuts the town two and is populated by the famous black swan plus the Egyptian and Chinese goose and various species of duck including whistling duck and the paintbox-coloured mandarin duck. Olde English tea shops are conveniently placed alongside The Brook or in the backstreets and you can lunch on The Lawns or enjoy a giant Devon ice-cream or home made cake. Restaurants suit most tastes and the shops range from small independents to some national chains and a supermarket. The station is at the foot of The Lawns on the sea front with frequent trains to Plymouth, Penzance and Exeter, the latter serving most UK stations. Buses run to Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, Shaldon, Torquay, Starcross and Exeter.
