Dalaman Airport is 1hr 45 mins drive and airport transfers or car hire can be arranged. Whilst the close proximity of the villa to Old Kalkan Town means car hire is not essential, car rentals can be booked by the day for local sight seeing etc.
Kalkan is well served with a large choice of restaurants, local shops, pharmacies, banks, post office etc which are all within easy walking distance of the villa. Previous guests have highlighted how much they enjoyed being able to stroll into the Old Town and yet the villa is still outside the busiest part.
The Old Town is centred around the small working harbour where boats can be hired for the day with its own crew to take you to the sunken city Kekova or simply to a secluded cove to swim. A must see is Saklikent (Hidden City) Gorge, Europe's second-largest river gorge, is about a 40 minutes drive from Kalkan. It is a spectacular place, with sculpted walls soaring high above offering leisurely river wading to river tubing for the more active
The small beach at Kalkan is a little over a 10 minute walk from the villa. Kaputa Beach, a classic Mediteranean sandy cove nestled at the foot of a striking mountain ravine, is a 10 minute drive from Kalkan. The famous 12km beach at Patara (voted one of the top beaches in the world by Times Online - The Best 2005) is a 15 minute drive and its part of a national park, so totally unspoilt. Both beaches can also be reached by dolomuses (a local shared minibus service - fantastic value!) from the nearby bus station.
Kalkan neighbours many important Lycian sites (Patara, Xanthos, Letoon, Tlos, Kekova-Simena) which make great day trips. The nearest town of any size is Kas - approximately 25 minutes drive and offers a variety of outdoor activities including para gliding, horse riding etc.
Fethiye, the largest town in the area, with an excellent weekly market is a 45 minutes drive. Fethiye also has a permanent outdoor fresh fish market where the adjacent restaurants will be pleased to cook the fish you have chosen - delicious!
