Excellent home from home

Review Submitted: January 7, 2012 Date of Stay: December 2011
This was our second visit to Cove cottage and we are delighted with the homely touches provided by Anne and Brian. Furnishings and equipment are of an excellent standard and vey well maintained. Bedding and linen is better than we have had in 4 satr hotels.
This is a beautiful place to stay if you want peace and quiet, no noise and not much in the way of street lighting so you can enjoy the spectacular night skies.
We can find no fault with this property, everything straightforward at the booking and good contact from owners.
Hopefully we will be returning for another visit and would strongly recommend Cove Cottage to friends.
Top rate place to stay, many thanks Anne and Brian

Home from home in beautiful part of England

Review Submitted: October 18, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
We stayed at Cove Cottage at the end of September as an alternative to paying to stay in one of the hotels/B&Bs in Bamburgh itself, and we were not disappointed.

The cottage itself is in a very peaceful location, and is well decorated and maintained. It is as though you are staying in someone's house, not a holiday home. It was cosy - and i imagine in the winter it is even more so when you get the fire going. There is also a private court yard where you could let your children play without having to worry about them straying onto a road.

We walked into Bamburgh along the beach past Budle Bay, and then back along the road (as tide was in) - it is a good couple of miles but a beautiful walk along the coast. If you're a keen photographer, there are endless opportunities. Bamburgh is a beautiful village (can get busier on the weekend) with an amazing castle and wonderful sand dunes.

We also visited Lindisfarne, also excellent, Seahouses and Alnwick (both worth a wander round). Alnwick gardens are worth a visit too.

Owners of the cottage were lovely, keeping in touch before the holiday and then giving a courtesy call to make sure everything was going well. It was also great to find someone who offers their cottage on a nightly basis rather that only a week at a time.

All in all, we didn't want to come home!

Thanks for a great couple of days! I have already recommended Cove Cottage to friends.

The Best Self Catering Cottage We Have Used

Review Submitted: October 4, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
Cove Cottage is a superbly equipped self catering establishment, immaculately clean and a real home from home. The minute you walk through the door you sense that this going to be an excellent choice of accomodation!

The listing description is accurate in all details - location, layout and facilities. The property is clean, tidy and well maintained.

Anne and Brian, the owners, provide excellent customer service. As we arrive late afternoon, early evening, they are not there to greet us (I suspect they would be if we arrived earlier!), but there is always a bottle of wine and a welcoming card left for us, the lights left on, and a warm glow from the fire in the lounge, and shortly after we arrive there is a phone call from Anne to make sure that everything is satisfactory.

We most certainly have recommended this property to our friends and relatives.

Within the area we have dined at The Victoria Hotel and The Castle Hotel in Bamburgh and The Barn at Beal. All provide tasty and value for money meals. (If you are a dog owner, dogs are welcome to sit in the bar at The Victoria) We have had delicious sandwices and cakes from The Pantry in Bamburgh.

We have visited Bamburgh Beach, The Grace Darling Museum, Bamburgh Church, Seahouses (trips out to the Farne Islands), Berwick upon Tweed (historic city, museums and Elizabethan walls), Alnwick (Barter Books reputed to be the largest second hand bookshop in the country), - Alnwick Castle used in Harry Potter Films, Alnwick Garden & Tree House Restaurant [superb meals but you need to book] Lindisfarne (Holy Island) - Castle, Priory, Heritage Centre, Mead Factory, walks and bird watching, Low Newton be the Sea, The Ship Inn serves superb ploughman's lunches - again you need to book to be sure of a meal at busy times

The villages of Ford & Etal (The Heatherslaw Light Railway,[runs alongside the River Till between Heatherslaw and Etal] Heatherslaw Corn Mill & Cafe) The thatched pub The Bull in Etal & Etal Castle. Ford Estate Village and Lady Waterford Hall.

We also visited Kelso and Melrose [Abbey] - Russell's Restaurant in Melrose serves very tasty meals)

This self catering property is ideally situated for exploring the Scottish Borders, The Northumberland AONB, The Northumberland Heritage Coast, the Cheviot Hills - and basically anywhere between Edinburgh and Newcastle!

You can guage our satisfaction with this property as this has been our fourth return visit!

Owner's Response: We would like to thank you for leaving the cottage in such clean condition on your departure, even though you had two dogs, there was not a trace of them ever being at the cottage, the fact that you took such care to restore the cottage to its original condition was much appreciated.
Resposiible dog owners are a pleasure to have as guests, thank you again. Anne & Brian
