Cannes is famous for the Film Festivals. The city council has the idea of creating the 'International Film Festival'. The project started in 1946, after the Second World War, during which the inhabitants of Cannes have to endure many restrictions and sufferings. On September 20th, 1946 is the inauguration of the 1st International Film Festival has enormous success. Nowadays, this ' Film Festival ', second most known event worldwide (after the Olympic games) is the pride and the good reputation of Cannes, city of a thousand subtleties! Located right opposite the old harbour with 1 minutes walk to the beautiful sandy beaches, there are Public & Private beaches. The Private beaches all have bars/restaurants and serviced sun beds. There is a wide selection of restaurants along the seafront. The Palais de Festival is no more than 30m and the Croisettes is on your doorstep with all the prestigious shops. In the summer, there are boat trips to St Tropez and small neighboring Islands.
