Fodderty Lodge, built in 1730, is the ideal destination for a quiet holiday in the Highlands. Halfway between Strathpeffer and Dingwall, it is perfectly placed for exploring the whole of the North of Scotland. Our 3 bright and cheerful, well-equipped cottages are geared to reflect the needs of families, couples and singles. Many larger family groups decide to book more than one cottage! They are furnished to a high standard and all bed linen (100% cotton) is included; each has its own washing machine and drying facilities, colour digital television with many channels and DVD. With fully fitted kitchens and cosy sitting rooms, they provide the perfect haven to relax in at the end of a day’s adventures in the Highlands, and are renowned for their cleanliness. There are radios, games and books for guests to use. A 'Home away from Home'. No pets are allowed though and there is strictly no smoking permitted in the cottages nor the grounds.

Fodderty Lodge is the ideal destination for a quiet self-catering holiday in the Highlands. Halfway between Strathpeffer and Dingwall, it is perfectly placed for exploring the whole of the North of Scotland: Ullapool and the West Coast can be reached in under an hour, driving on some of the most beautiful and empty roads in Scotland; Inverness, with an excellent theatre, swimming pool and ice rink is only 20 minutes away; Glen Affric and Loch Ness will take just over half an hour. The surrounding area has much to recommend it: many castles and golf courses; whisky distilleries; local fishing; Culloden Battlefield; charming Highland villages (Strathpeffer itself is a Victorian Spa village); beautiful beaches and a well known viewpoint for seeing the famous Moray Firth dolphins. The bird watcher and nature lover will be thrilled with daily sightings from the garden of red kites. Surrounded by many stunning walks for all abilities; the Ross-shire Pathway Network passes the front gate.

Notes: Fodderty Lodge accommodation is adaptable for one, two or three generations. We operate a very strict no smoking, and no guest pet policy throughout the cottages and grounds. We have our own two family dogs: a 6 year old yellow Labrador boy and a 6 year old West Highland White girl. They are very friendly, but are never allowed in the cottages. Their mission is to chase but never catch the many rabbits that have made Fodderty Lodge their home!

When to arrive and when to go!: Lets are usually Friday to Friday. Short breaks Friday - Monday or Monday to Friday. Arrive after 4pm on the first day and leave before 10am on the last day.

More information: Good local restaurants in Dingwall and Strathpeffer. 24 hour Tesco in Dingwall, but there are also lovely traditional High Street butchers, bakers etc. Banks etc. Museums. Swimming pool and leisure centre in Dingwall. Strathpeffer Pavilion is an exciting multi-purpose Arts venue with many classical concerts, operas and rock concerts.

Booking and Payment: For payment details please email a request. Payment of a 25% deposit at the time of booking with the balance arriving 6 weeks before the beginning of the let. Payment from overseas is usually made by internet transfer.

Ski: We are about an hour and a half from the ski centre at Aviemore/

Golf: There are many golf courses nearby: Strathpeffer 2 miles away has a beautiful, challenging and sometimes humbling 18 hole Highland course; the links course at Rosemarkie 15 minutes drive away is in a stunning setting, jutting out into the Moray Firth; the championship course of Royal Dornoch is a 40 minute drive, as is the championship course at Nairn.

Our Holiday in East Wing at Fodderty Lodge

My husband and I stayed in East Wing for two summer holidays, and we found it to be exactly as advertised, very comfortable, with everything clean and in good working order. Everything we could possibly need in a 'home from home' was provided in the apartment, so we were able to enjoy our holiday from the moment we arrived. The owners are very kind and helpful, and have placed an 'information file' in the dining/sitting area with a wealth of information on places to see and things to do. Customer service is a priority for the owners and nothing is too much trouble for them, should you have any queries or need help. Medical help is only a couple of miles away in Dingwall should anyone need to be seen by a GP.

We do enjoy walking, and we particularly enjoyed the local walks - especially up on The Cat's Back. On day trips by car from Fodderty Lodge, we have been to Dunrobin Castle (where we saw falconry); Falls of Shin to watch salmon leaping; Ullapool; Achiltibuie for a boat trip round the Summer Isles; Applecross where a delicious lunch can be enjoyed in the Potting Shed in the Walled Garden; lunch is also excellent at the family owned and run Carron Restaurant near Strathcarron railway station. On a perfect summer day we took a day return on the train from Dingwall to the picturesque village of Plockton, where The Plockton Stores Cafe serves excellent meals. All in all we had a holiday from cooking because of the abundance of places to eat home cooked meals!

On the railway platform in Strathpeffer we enjoyed excellent meals in The Old Railway Station Cafe, where there are shops and a very good Highland Museum also on the platform, and well worth a visit.

I would recommend this property to my friends and family as an excellent base for a holiday in the Highlands, and we look forward to staying there again ourselves in the future.
