This beautiful three bedroomed village house is a rare find in deepest rural France. Tucked away behind the main street, this is the “real” France at its best – loads of genuine French atmosphere, but with the style and luxury you’d expect from a hip boutique hotel. Open-beamed ceilings, wood floors and whitewashed-walls – this rural village house stylishly combines modern interiors with beautiful period features. Charmingly traditional on the outside, coolly chic on the inside. Ranged over three floors it offers three bedrooms making it ideal for larger families, groups of friends or perhaps two small families. Perfect for both active family holidays or just chilling out and taking in the genuine French atmosphere. The lifestyle here tends to be more laid back, but if you do feel the need to rush about being active, there's plenty to do locally, from canoeing and horse riding, to visiting caves and châteaux. And of course, there's always the beautiful scenery to gaze at!

AS FEATURED IN SEPTEMBER O9 ISSUE OF 'LIVING FRANCE'! This beautiful, though largely undiscovered part of France is, geographically speaking, part of the highly fashionable and, during high season, exceedingly busy, Dordogne. Luckily the crowds tend to stay pretty close to the Dordogne valley leaving Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière and many of the other pretty little towns and villages of the north Dordogne area relatively untouched by the tourist trade. Life here goes on much as it has done for many a generation, with the pace being set largely by the church bells. That said, this area, also known as the Perigord Vert, because of its extensive woodlands and lush green fields, was recently designated a 'Parc Naturel', helping to put it more firmly on the tourist map. For those who discover its unique magic, you can still enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the area, the friendliness of its people and the 'Frenchness' of its lifestyle.

  • The property's weekend rates apply to: Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights

    The 'Nightly Rate' charges (above) relate to nights added to an existing booking of one week. 'Short Break' (i.e. less than a week) stays can be arranged subject to availability; please ask.

    Payment can be made via paypal, in £ stg via on-line banking or by cheque (5 working days clearance), or in Euros (cash or cheque drawn on a French bank account).
  • A deposit of 25% of the rental is payable on booking. Provisional bookings are held for 4 working days only. The balance of the rental is payable 4 weeks prior to the arrival date.

    At that time we will also require a £200 returnable cautionary deposit in the form of a cheque (or payment into paypal account) which will be held in and returned to you within 14 days of your departure on satisfactory inspection of the property. Damage, breakages and extra cleaning will be deducted from the deposit.

    For bookings made less than 4 weeks in advance, the total amount is payable on the booking together with the cautionary deposit as stated above.

  • Across the spacious landing is the wonderfully roomy bathroom, with huge free-standing bath (with hand held mixer) and a walk-in shower big enough for a whole gaggle of grubby kids.

  • On the first floor a king-sized modern country style bed and huge double windows overlooking the narrow street below, all in shades of brilliant white and Gustavian blue, star in the master bedroom. The two attic bedrooms combine white walls with rustic beams and new pine doors. The rear attic room has two single beds. It's all white painted furniture with occasional hits of zingy green. In addition to the two veluxes, which let the light stream in, there's a cute (non opening) floor level window overlooking the garden. The second attic room features smooth lined contemporary furniture, a pretty hand me down eiderdown and embroidered cushions. There is a comfortable convertible bed which can be used as a single, two singles or a super king size. Access down one side of the bed is slightly restricted when it is used as a super king, due to the slope of the roof and the position of the beams. Egyptian cotton bedlinen is used throughout and pillows and duvets are all hypoallergenic.

Notes: Sleeps six, but plenty of room for a cot, which is provided, along with cot bedding. Stairgate provided. High chair provided. Potty provided and the washing basket also doubles up as a great baby bath! Please note that the property is on three floors with two sets of stairs. The stairs up to the attic bedrooms are fairly steep, but there is a handrail and the stairs are well lit.

The real France - official!: Short distance from swimming lake with beach. Beach towels, and mats provided. Snorkels and masks, buckets and spades etc also provided. All basic amenities in village, including restaurants, bank (with ATM) and post office. Classic French market in village on Sundays.

Nice to know!: Welcome pack provided on arrival, including fresh local produce. English-speaking representative on hand to answer any questions. Environmentally friendly cleaning products and recycling facilities are provided. Housekeeping - ordinarily it is just between stays, but if it's longer than a week then an extra clean can be arranged for an additional fee.

We rented this wonderful property for a late October break. The house was just as described- in fact better. Everything you could need was there and to an exceptionally high standard. A very romantic area and the cottage perfect for a quiet romantic getaway as well as for a family holiday. The house was so warm and comfortable and the log burner perfect. It is ideal for exploring the countryside and is a haven to come home to at the end of the day.
The villagers are friendly and you can buy any food etc you need there.
We felt at home straight away and could easily have lived there. We will definitely be returning- an excellent letting property.
