On the edge of the Sierra Nevada National Park, Casa Amelia in the unspoiled Lecrin Valley is a fabulous location for walking (the long distance footpath GR7 is close by and runs from Algeciras to Athens!), bird watching (eagles, bee eaters, hoopoes and golden orioles), and exploring the Alpujarra mountains . The Moorish capital of Granada (20 minutes drive) has excellent tapas bars (tapas is free in Granada province!), good restaurants, Moroccan tea rooms, theatres, concerts, flamenco music, dancing and ... the palace and gardens of the Alhambra. Night life also nearer home - a 5 minute drive to Niguelas for tapas bars and musical events. The Costa Tropical with resorts such as Almunecar and the less well known Salobrena (only 30 minutes drive and featuring the 'lost boys' jumping from the cliff), have restaurants with sardines from the old boy Tonio, cooked over wood fires on the beach. If you feel a bit muscular the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada are less than an hour away
