Photos and Description of this Villefranche-sur-Mer holiday apartment
1 Bedroom apartment, 1.5 baths, sleeps 2-4, great view and space.

“On the rooftops” is the name of this apartment. It has a wonderful view of the village rooftops (all terracotta) that cascade down the hillside to the sea - the beautiful Bay and Cap Ferrat. The views of the bay, boats and Cap Ferrat are fabulous and intimate. When you enter the apartment, through a private stairwell, you are struck first by the view and then by the the spacious feel of the mail room with it’s cathedral ceilings, skylights and 600 year old stone walls. Our customers always exclaim ‘wow’ when they enter the space – I guess a bit unexpected. The main living space is quite spacious & includes the kitchen, dining and lounging area. Throughout is original artwork and great lighting (for atmosphere and reading) all on dimmers. It is located in a great location within the old town: a 5 minute walk to the waterfront and beach, steps from the shops and restaurants of the old town, and a short walk to the world renowned French language institute called the Institut Francais.

Villefranche is nestled between Nice and Monaco - 5 min from old (Vieux) Nice, 10-15 min from Monaco. Although surrounded by a diverse, exciting cosmopolitan environment, it is still an authentic Nicoise village. I know, I live here, hard to believe it is still that way -- wonderful! Within close and easy access are Antibes, Cannes, St. Paul de Vence, Grasse, Mougins and just a bit further St. Tropez, Ramatuelle, Bormes les Mimosas, or Aix, Arles, Avignon and all the villages of Provence, or take a ferry from Nice Port to Corsica (3 hours on the fast ferry), or into Italy and visit Ventimiglia, San Remo, the Vallee de Roya, Portofino, Cinque Terre. But if you stay in Villefranche and the neighboring towns of Beaulieu, St. Jean Cap Ferrat, Eze, La Turbie you'll exhaust a week and more just exploring and enjoying these lovely villages. Most of these sites--easy with no car. And if you are here to attend the French language Institute, Institut Francais, it is a 10 minute walk away.

Notes: Sur le Toit is located in the heart of the old town. Our customers love the location. We do want you to be aware that there are church bells - lovely, but if you don't like them we want you to know you are close by to them. They ring from 7 a.m to 9 p.m. every day! They are quite lovely and one does get used to them, but if you really don't like them, then you won't like this apartment. This apartment is the top floor of this building that you enter on rue Volti. We own all 3 of the apartments in this building and each one is different and unqiue from the other (although all are one bedroom and one or one and a half bath). The street door ensures complete privacy and security for these 3 apartments.

Further details for this holiday apartment rental in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France

About Villefranche:

Great beach, fabulous swimming, great walks, exquisite scenery, wonderful restaurants, and lots to explore in our little triangle of beauty (Villefranche, Beaulieu, Cap Ferrat). Take a walk around the old town, around the water's edge walk of the citadel to the Port de la Darse, where boats have and continue to be built for over 500 years. Walk up to the Moyenne Corniche and follow the path up to Mont Boron to Fort Alban and come down the hillside back into Villefranche. Or take one of the prettiest walks in the world, from your doorstep in Villefranche, around the water's edge of Cap Ferrat -- a great day trip with a picnic and swim along the way. Or enjoy the lovely sandy beach of Villefranche and the wonderful swimming, or linger over a great lunch in one of the seaside restaurants. Or attend the superb French language institute, Institut Francais, a month-long immersion program, which is only a 10 minute walk away from this apartment.

Things to do in the area:

But should you get bored with our little triangle, you can hop the train and head to Cannes or Antibes or take the bus to Nice. Cannes is great for shopping, as is Nice. Antibes is great to explore, have lunch, tour the marina and look at all the amazing yachts. Or take the train or bus to Monaco or Menton -- both fabulous in different ways. In Monaco, we love the Oceanographic Institute, exploring the old town, visiting the castle, exploring the Exotic garden and it's incredible grotto (a must for kids -- but adults will also have fun), the casino area and its gardens, the gorgeous Japanese garden and just 'hanging out' in Monaco -- it's such a scene! And then there is lovely Menton -- a fabulous old town, a lovely seaside. And then of course there is old Nice, the Promenade des Anglais and the several days you could spend exploring there. And we haven't even touched on St. Paul de Vence, Grasse, Vence, Eze or some of the other fabulous places within 30 min or less of here.

And there is more...:

If you like to golf, there are some great golf courses in Monaco (unbelievable view over the Med) or Mougins, Cannes, and around. There is scuba diving, sailing, cycling (Lance Armstrong has called this place home -- still hangs out here), and great great walking. St. Tropez, the Var, Gorges du Verdon, Vallee du Roya, Italy, Corsica, Provence -- it is all close by yet you will always love coming back to Villefranche from wherever you visit because it is calm, embracing, nourishing -- a village with a great lifestyle.

This is a very kid friendly place but also a great place to be if you are a romantic couple just wanting to hang out or a retired couple wanting to experience living here for a while. Even as an expatriate you can integrate here quickly as there are alot of expats here. And the French also enjoy mingling with the expat community.

A Great Find

Review Submitted: October 12, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
What can we add to the other reviews? We cannot speak too highly of “Sur Le Toit”. Shelley has thought of everything to make a stay there a delightfully enjoyable, trouble-free holiday. In particular, we would mention the comfortable bed and pillows, the good reading lights and the ample storage space. The apartment is one of the most cleverly designed we have come across. The situation – at the top of the old town - is ideal with views over the harbour to Cap Ferrat, and everything, from friendly restaurants to excellent boulangeries, close at hand. And Shelley herself is a treasure – friendly and helpful and a mine of local information.

A Perfect Stay

Review Submitted: September 27, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
In September of 2009, my family and I stayed in Sur le Toit and we had a wonderful time. The location was perfect for experiencing authentic old town life. Everything was as stated and as shown on the website. Like the fresh sunflowers on the dining table, the apartment was bright and sunny. The comfortable sofabed was exceptionally easy to set up. The beautiful kitchen was stocked with more items than we needed. There was plenty of space for everyone; I especially enjoyed the bay window seats with the charming view. This comfortable apartment also had a dishwasher, a washing machine, a beautiful soaking tub, and lots of creative lighting. Shelley was there to greet us and she thoroughly explained how to operate everything. She even made sure that we were all able to log on successfully to the internet. There were abundant beach towels and a large, stylish shopping/beach bag in the apartment ready for our use and there was also beach equipment in a storage room right at the beach. I felt that Sur le Toit was infinitely better than 2 cramped hotel rooms, which would have been the equivalent, price-wise. My daughter's fiance stayed in a local hotel and after seeing his room, I was so thankful that we were staying in Sur le Toit and I realized what a great value it was and that it was possible only because of Shelley's high standards and hard work. Shelley is truly a "people-person". Because of her connections, quick thinking, and interest in others, she had a hand in shaping an historical event in our family. So, because of Sur le Toit and Shelley, we had value in more ways than one. I totally recommend staying in Sur le Toit and dealing with Shelley as both are absolutely wonderful.

A wonderful holiday in Villefranche

Review Submitted: September 24, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We're just writing to say that we had a lovely time in Villefranche. The apartment was beautiful - tastefully decorated, spacious and in immaculate condition. Shelley couldn't have been friendlier and obviously takes great joy in making sure that all her guests have the best possible time.

The apartment is situated a very short walk (2 mins) from the sea front and has lovely views on the sea from the living room. It is bang in the middle of the very peaceful town centre. There are a great many restaurants and waterfront bars. It is also a short walk (7 mins) from the train station where you can get a train directly to Monaco, Cannes, Antibes and St Tropez.

We would highly recommend this property and hope to be back again in future.

Best,
Clare and Tim (September 2009)

A treasure

Review Submitted: August 19, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks in Sur Le Toit. The apartment is beautifully decorated, well laid out and very convenient. The skylights and lighting make it especially lovely. Shelley is a wonderful host and provides very useful and thoughtful information on the area, its attractions and restaurants. Highly recommended.

Great pied-a-terre for exploring the coast

Review Submitted: October 28, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sur le toit. It's a beautiful mix of old and new, has a perfect view, is very clean, roomy and comfortable and makes you feel like you are actually living in a small village with all of the sounds, smells, views and characters that come with that. We particularly liked the convenience of the washing machine after being on the road for two weeks, the library of books and local information, the perfect kitchen, the cozy bedroom and comfy bed, the places to stretch out and just enjoy the view, the TV and sound system and the great lighting, skylights and windows. The apartment was exactly as described and we much appreciated being introduced to it and the neighbourhood by Shelley upon arrival. It was also nice to know that she was never far away should we need her help or encounter a problem.
